Summary: I've had a couple of USB3.0 hubs (different brands) that went bad because they needed separate power. The power connector on both eventually had issues (poor quality I guess) and ended up burning the unit. This hub does not require an external power source.
Excerpt: This device works like it should with both Win 7 and Win 8.1 but you have to load the drivers from the cd. I would have given five stars if it was built a little better and was more sturdy, feels like a cheap piece of plastic when you hold it and seems as if it may not last very long.
Excerpt: This is a good piece of equipment that expands any USB 3.0 port to four ports. With USB 3.0, there is no need for an external power supply because 3.0 boosted the power service to each port. Plugging a USB 2.0 device into one of the 3.0 ports will not interfere with the 3.0 ports remaining.
