Great below 3GB, Worthless with 4GB+

Maarten A., Newegg
12 May 2008
  • Summary: Great card if you never expect to go beyond 3GB or so. Worthless on machines with 4Gb or more.
  • Pros: This card is a great value for the money if you are looking for a card that works well in Vista (and XP), and can work with Media Center. The picture is pretty decent, and I have not had any problems installing the card.
  • Cons: If you have 4GB or more memory in your computer or plan to upgrade to 4GB, this card is pretty much worthless. It stops working as soon as you upgrade your memory. Hauppauge is "supposedly" working on drivers, but the problem has been known for well over a year and nothing has been done. Worse, a...

Great Card..unles you have >3GB of RAM

Michael W., Newegg
18 April 2008
  • Pros: Great price, decent picture quality, works right out of the box with Windows Media Center on Vista and is supported by almost every PVR software out there.
  • Cons: ..well, it was great until I upgraded to 4GB or RAM. Now I get a blank screen and no audio. Unlike most in this situation though, I can actually get video and audio after a reboot, but once I quit Media Center and try to watch TV again..Blank screen. Hauppauge apparently has been working on a new...

Beware of 64 bit OS memory restrictions

Anonymous, Newegg
8 April 2008
  • Pros: Great TV tuner when drivers are working properly in 32 bit OS or 64 bit OS with 3GB of memory or less.
  • Cons: 3 GB memory limit in 64 bit OS confirmed by Hauppauge tech support. When I picked up this product I was using 32 bit XP with my RAM maxed. Then I switched over to Vista 64 bit. Unknowing to me and not explicitly stated in their manual, this product is limited at the time of this writing to the ma...

Just OK

James H., Newegg
2 February 2008
  • Summary: The use of a swap file just to display video is annoying. I've found at least 5 different ways to hard lock XP with this card over the last two years, although for the most part it's performed well enough.
  • Pros: Works well in XP 32, Vista 32, Linux
  • Cons: Higher processor usage than you'd expect, average picture quality, buggy software, terrible 64 bit drivers

Usually does what it is supposed to. But still stuck in the 'rabbit ear' era

Rob M. "Rob", Amazon
1 February 2008
  • Summary: I have had the Hauppauge WinTV PVR 150 for almost 4 months now. While this works more or less as advertised, it is somewhat clunky in the software department. It scans for antenna channels, not the plugged in cable box, the included channel management software doesn't really work there.

Works OK

PAUL J., Newegg
23 October 2007
  • Summary: Nothing much. It's decent but Operating System support is poor.
  • Pros: Works, good picture.
  • Cons: Works in Linux but can only change channels within MythTV (No windowed mode.) or using ivtv-tune (A hassle.). Tends to be choppy with high action scenes unless you turn the bitrate down and even then it can be slow. Has locked up a few times requiring me to reload the driver. Built-in software di...

Not bad, but not the best

ben f., Newegg
14 September 2007
  • Summary: I'm giving this a 3 because the software hauppauge provides is horrible (They actually provide two different versions of the tv program), the video is severely jerky and the audio cuts in an out on a 2.4 ghz intel quadcore o/c to 3.6ghz. That shouldn't happen.
  • Pros: Great price, my last tv tuner (remote wonder pro) cost over $100. The remote and card work great with vistas media center. Its basically a Tivo with no monthly fees.
  • Cons: No digital cable support (No channels higher than 125). Included software is horrible. The velcro stickies for the IR reciever don't stick.

Works but...

Andrew E., Newegg
27 August 2007
  • Summary: Works just fine with 2 gigs RAM, but I have 4. Not cool. Watch out for this!
  • Pros: TV on my computer, works with Vista
  • Cons: The bundled software is garbage, doesn't really work with Vista64. The driver also isn't 64-bit compatible, so it doesn't work with my 4 gigs of memory!

It works, kinda

Anonymous, Newegg
29 July 2007
  • Summary: I bought 2 of these for the same PC to record and time-shift TV...at least it will still do that...I will just use a wireless keyboard and mouse. Oh, did I mention, Support from Hauppauge web site is a joke.
  • Pros: Gets a TV signal
  • Cons: Support from Hauppauge web site is a joke. I couldn't get either IR receiver to work. Spent days looking for info. It just comes up in Device Manager as MCE TRANCEIVR Emulator. I am running a fully updated XP MCE 2005 that should install it "automatically"

Vista Home Premium Issues

Delbert J., Newegg
2 July 2007
  • Summary: If you have Vista then don't buy it for the software. Now I'm shopping for DVD Authoring Software.
  • Pros: TV does work, just click ok after the error message. TV plays in Windows Media Center.
  • Cons: With Vista Home Premium I get an error every time i run the TV unless I Check run as administrator(cancel or allow). Can't find software updates for Vista on Hauppauge site. Old version of Ulead Moviefactory crashes in Vista and is not supported for Vista. WinTV-Editor creates corrupt files. Few ...
