Summary: I purchased this unit because the Silicon HDHomeRun tuner I was using was of inferior quality and would not pull in fringe OTA stations. Once installed in my HTPC, the 1229 unit pulled in the fringe stations much better.
Ordered the HVR-2255 and Received the HVR-2250 - twice!
25 September 2014
Summary: I ordered Hauppauge's lastest model HVR-2255 and received the HVR-2250. Thought it must have been a simple shipping error so I reordered and again received the old model HVR-2250. Not Happy. Now I have 2 packages to return. **** Update - Decided to install the HVR-2250 anyway based upon reviews and lack of apparent availability of the HVR-2255 - to my surprise the box was labeled HVR-2250 but the board is labeled HVR-2255.
Summary: infrared wasn't working. Downloaded remote configuration program from hauppauge. Remote still wasn't working. Opened device manager & uninstalled the Microsoft eHome infrared drivers. Rebooted & bingo. Everything works great. Aside from some driver conflicts (Microsoft's fault) I am thoroughly satisfied.
Excerpt: I'm using this with a Windows 8.1 desktop and XBMC. It took a little configuration but that was primarily getting software to work with XBMC. Just using it with analog cable here in this remote part of Alaska but it has allowed me to consolidate one more piece of equipment! Easy to install and easy to operate.
Pros: Easy To Install, Easy To Use, Reliable Performance
Excerpt: Bought this tuner earlier this year and it works fine. The dual tuner capability allows two shows to be recorded at one time. I am using it mainly on a windows 7 with Windows Media Center system with an Intel I5 processor that I made specifically as an HTPC. Recently I added dual boot with Ubuntu and with a little effort got it to work with mythTV also. The manufacturer and B&H were helpful with simple installation issues.
