Summary: You do need to get a pre-amp for newer receivers that do not have a phono input that does the adjustments internally. I got the Music Hall pre-amp, which is like $165, so you have to figure it is better than what would be on an older amp, anyway, or whatever is built into some turntables.
Pros: Easy to set up and to use. It does have a little lever at the tone arm mounting area to gently lift and lower the stylus onto the record. So far I am very happy with the performance that this device and the sound quality of it.
Cons: It is a bit of a pain to change speeds on it, requiring the removal of the heavy metal platter. You can get a device that will change the speeds my modulating the power to the motor, but they are kind of expensive.
Excerpt: Bought this turntable as my first and I couldn't be more thrilled. The quality of the construction is superb and it looks "sexy". It sounds incredible and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade or who has the money to spend! Initially my budget for a turntable was $- but once I heard some of those turntables, I quickly realized I had to spend a bit more.
Pros: Consistent, Easy To Use, Excellent Sound, Looks Great, Well Built
Summary: I took advantage of this table due to the fact that there are many upgrades available as well as the simple and fully manual design keeps the cost low and the sound quality high. I am currently using this table along with the Pro-Ject Speedbox, and the Pro-Ject Phonobox preamp. I purchased the acrylic platter upgrade at the same time. This table references extremely well, especially with the stock cartridge. It is a snap to set up, and tracks perfectly.
Mer in your face och mer bas. Aber is nix wildes. Nach dem Zusammenbau kommt der Hörgenuss. Und der ist wirklich TOP.
