Summary: Great product, plays exceptionally well. Good price although not cheap, but not over priced.
Pros: Very smooth handling of the needle and arm, simple controls
Cons: The power cable plug on the back of the TT is very sensitive to touch. Space in my cabinet is limited so any movement of the TT when opening or closing the plastic top sometimes interrupts power.
Summary: Everything about my experience with Crutchfield was smooth and a pleasure. The advice from customer support was "spot on". The product arrived exactly as promised. The Marantz turntable was packed drywall, easy to install and sounds great.
Summary: I went shopping for a turntable after my trusty old Dual 1228 automatic died after 39 years. Since I am an an "old school" audiophile, I was in for quite an awakening: the new turntables are not like the old ones. They are made primarily for downloading music to digital sources and look flimsy and cheap, and are so-so for listening to vinyl albums. After careful research, I came across the TT42P.
Pros: The shipment arrived in 3 business days, great Crutchfield service and price, The turntable is very beautiful & stylish - compliments my other components, After reading the instructions - Easy set up; remove 2 shipping clips, put the platter on, and put the hinges on for the dust cover. It takes 15 minutes tops... No setting of any counterweight, Anti-skate controls - plug it in and play...
Cons: Platter is VERY light (for us "old heads" who are used to massive, heavy platters), The power plug/adapter head is larger than usual and may not plug into the back of some receivers due to it's size.
Summary: First of all, let me just say, I've owned Marantz stereo gear for over 30+ yrs. And absolutely love it! But, this turntable has me a little doubtful... I bought it to replace a very good 'Stanton' turntable that i had because i wanted a new one to match my existing Marantz 'stuff'. Also, i wanted a semi-auto turntable as my Stanton was completely manual.
Summary: This is my first turntable. Wanted something not super cheap, but didn't feel comfortable getting a more "audiophile" table costing >$500. Sound quality is excellent. Table looks very attractive. Doesn't feel quite as high quality as some older tables with metal swing arms, and doesn't seem to be adjustable as far as needle pressure, swing arm weights, etc. Still, it plays well and sounds very good. I really like having both full-auto and semi-auto play control options.
Summary: ease of use, very good , but the rest , forget it. audiophile quality, are you deaf?the platter is made of tin foil, eccentric and warped. mounted to a plastic driver. the disc is only supported at the edge, lightweight and flimsy, and sounds the same. has all the depth and integrity of a house fly, and should be swatted just the same. does not do justice to my thirty year old Marantz deck.
