Summary: Community of four different adults using this on the run every day for breakfasts and snacks, the toaster is basic (which we wanted) and so far most efficient. We all manage various breads lightly-but-well toasted at a setting between 1 and 2; bagels between 2 and 3. Front opening crumb trays are a good thing. Good value for its cost.
A perfectly acceptable toaster - better than most.

Summary: I've had a lot of trouble with toasters lately. Uneven toasting, hot exteriors, or even DOA out of the box. I spend $60 on one of them, and it was terrible, so it went back. This toaster.... pretty decent. The exterior stays cool. Toasting was fairly even (though not perfect). It looks OK on the counter. For this price, if it last a couple years, I'll be happy enough with it.
There are a lot of people who liked this toaster, but not me.

Summary: There are a lot of people who liked this toaster, and that's why I purchased it. But after trying it at home with my other toaster side by side, I noticed big differences. My old toaster (different brand) has cool sides that also extends over the top. The metal part of the toaster is recessed. On the Hamilton Beach, the metal part is much more exposed and is raised higher that the cool sides. Old toaster, has a "lift" feature, Hamilton Beach doesn't.
Summary: The only positive thing I can say about this toaster is that it's lightweight and looks nice. It has 1-5 on the settings but it doesn't matter - each slot toasts differently; some totally burnt, some not toasted at all (to the point where you have to turn the bread over to toast the other side). It's cheap, but you get what you pay for. This thing is going right in the garbage.
Summary: We've been using this for a couple of months now, with great results. The settings are convenient. Plain toast comes out perfectly on the suggested setting. We've toasted bagels and muffins, too, all come out perfectly. We replaced a similar toaster, also a Hamilton Beach, that we had used for at least 15 years. This one seems just as good. We're happy with it.
Summary: This is the worst toaster ever...I'm sorry that I threw out my 8-year-old one that wasn't working that well anymore, because honestly, it did a better job than this thing. It toasts unevenly - from one slice to the next on the same setting (2), you'll get very, very different results, and even on one slice, it will be near-burnt on one end and not even look toasted on the other. I really didn't think I was asking for much.
Summary: Bought this toaster based upon positive reviews but ended up very disappointed. This "toaster" takes forever. We could probably toast four slices in our old two-slot toaster faster than this 4-slot piece of junk. Seriously, I could probably lay bread on the sidewalk on a hot sunny day and get toast faster than this waste of counter space. And after waiting all morning for your toast, what do you get? ...uneven toasting and a look of sadness on your children's faces.
Summary: This toaster has a number of good features. It toasts evenly for bread, muffins, bagels, and even toaster waffles. The only reason for 4 stars, it is VERY slow for bagels. Only one side comes on to toast, but it does toast evenly and does not burn the outside. all things considered, we would probably buy this unit again.
