Summary: The screen went black after 16 months but still had sound. I called tech support where the support tech told me what a great tv I had bought and how it was one of his favorites. His toon quickly changed when his only suggestion was to to do a reset and the problem did not go away. At that point he very quickly pointed out it only came with a 12 month warranty and gave me the number of a repair service company.
Excerpt: I was totally against buying another large tv, since my last one only lasted three years and at the time cost an arm and a leg. Now it sits in my basement, a dinosaur at five. Then, this wonder, this shing star in the darkness called, behold, my new Vizio. I was skeptical at first, a quality television, for a totally affordable price wass practically unheard of.
Excerpt: I read many user reviews on this TV before I bought it. About 20%-30% of the reviews said that the TV had picture problems soon after purchase. I decided to take a chance and bought it anyway, in May 2011. Four months after my purchase, the picture went out completely. At least it was covered by the Vizio in-home warranty. The repair guy replaced the main system board. AFTER FOUR MONTHS. He said the repair would have cost me $350 - $450 without a warranty.
Excerpt: We decided on this TV because it was an awesome price at Sams and it Vizio is a well known brand. We had read some reviews online that said it had problems with sound, but we weren't too concerned because don't have that big of a living space. We got it home and it was very easy to get out of the box and set up. Had it up and going within an hour. The clarity is absolutely stunning. If you get too close up though, it gets kind of pixelized.
Excerpt: The Visio 55" TV that My husband and I purchased about 6 months ago is the BEST TV I have ever bought. It has the best picture and has an easy remote to use. The picture quality is outstanding and the colors are so rich. It has many features and can even attach or WII to it and use. Easy to change from game to TV with the touch of one button.
Summary: I have had this TV for over a year and have been amazed with the picture quality, sound, and durability given this unit is on probably 18 or more hours a day. The sound in particular is amazing - sometimes we have to mute the sound to see if it coming from the TV or real life!! I don't even consider getting surround sound because I live in an apartment building and it probably wouldn't make any difference anyway.
Summary: Like many other people, my television's backlight unit failed just after the Vizio warranty period. As a result, I can get audio but no video. If you insist on getting this television, I strongly suggest that you purchase an extended warranty (I used Squaretrade). Next time I am just going to go with Panasonic or Samsung.
