The problem started after an automatic firmware update. Each replacement TV has the same problem once it downloada the updated firmware. There is no way to keep this from downloading.
Don't Be A Sucker-Lots of These Die Right after warranty period expires
14 May 2012
Summary: Don't be a sucker! I bought this TV not paying attention to those product reviews that said the screen went out (flickers to black) just after the warranty period expired. Well it just happened to me. Vizio help was nice but clueless. They spent 15 minutes trying to help by resetting all functions. Screen went out again in the middle of everything. Now nothing works and can't get a picture to fix it. They gave me the phone number of a national tech service I can call.
Summary: My $1,400 VIZIO XVT473 experienced what VIZIO called an "exceptional" and "unfixable" failure just past warrantee. But even in this exceptional failure situation, where the device was clearly defective, VIZIO's suggested resolution is to sell me a previously-returned unit with significantly fewer features and just a 90-day warrantee...for about the price I can find that lesser model at online retailers.
Cons: Multiple technical difficulties during the 14 months between purchase and total failure of the display panel. I told Vizio it's wrong for a $1,400 TV to completely fail after just 14 months--their attitude can be summed up as: 'too bad, so sad.'
Summary: Purchased this unit via Amazon on 1/2/11. It arrived a few days later. Recently, when turned on in the morning , a 18" wide, purple stripe appeared on the left side of the screen - 18" !! Purple showed up in the image where dark shading would be normally. Very distracting. I thanked my lucky stars that I bought a Square Trade 3 year warranty. Service repair contacted me and I sent some photos.
Summary: I bought this TV and was very satasfied that It took longer to ship then for me to enjoy it. I had it for three day, watched a few movies on vudu and I was blown away by the quality of the movies and the sound. I was wathcing a show after a long day at work and the picture completly went black!!!! I was supposed to host the monday night game between my hometown team the San Francisco 49ers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers.
Summary: Bought the TV one year and one week ago. The remote broke over the last few days (gradually stopped working). Vizio says "sorry, out of warranty". I've had Apple, HP, and Panasonic products. All these companies either honored their warranty even if shortly out of expiration, or they gave me a discount on repair/replacement products. Vizio gave me the middle finger. Heck with you Vizio--your TV's aren't that good. I'd rather get a good TV AND good customer service!
Summary: I love Amazon and their price matching policy. Bought this TV for around $700 back when Sam's Club had it for that price. With that said, after using it for one day, the screen is fully black, with no picture, but has sound. Now I have acquired the pleasant task of going through a service repairs through Vizio.
