Summary: The bare-bones Toshiba L5200 series offers respectable value for the money with fine picture quality for an edge-lit LED TV.
Pros: The Toshiba 5200 series has good all-around performance for the price, with relatively good black levels and shadow detail and minimal uniformity issues.
Cons: Color accuracy is a problem, with occasional greenish midtones. The backlight can fluctuate slightly between light and dark material. Unlike some TVs at this price level, there's no 3D or Smart TV.
Conclusion: Toshiba set out to provide a large, premium-quality picture backed with its recognized name in a TV with an accessible price tag. In that regard, the 50L5200U succeeds. However, a number of trade-offs were made in order to bring the price-point down and some of those have the set feeling a little cheaper than we’re used to with Toshiba.
Pros: Outstanding contrast and brightness, Very good color performance, Little to no light bleed, Thin profile, Reasonable price
Cons: Cheap-feeling stand and bezel, Dated-looking remote, No Internet connectivity, Terrible on-board control buttons
