The Toshiba 42HP66 is a 42-inch, plasma television that is relatively inexpensive as compared to other models in the same range. The price tag is around $1,610. The 42HP66 liquid plasma display is able to provide realistic black-levels. The 42HP66 TV has an 8000:1 contrast ratio, which is higher than the average televisions available in the market today. A built-in HDTV compatibility renders the 42HP66 with the ability to display sharper and more realistic images. The Toshiba 42HP66 is able to render standard-resolution digital TV broadcasts with ease. One of the primary features of the 42HP66 is the 3:2 pulldown feature that considerably reduces artifacts, which can occur during the transfer of motion pictures to a digital format like a DVD.

The first thing that you will notice when you unpack a Toshiba 42HP66 is the considerable “ghosting” of the On-screen setup menus. The Ghosting part refers to images, which have been temporarily burned-into the picture. Although these effects are temporary but they can cause screen burn-in problems later. The Toshiba 42HP66 comes with default picture settings, which is basically the Sports mode. The sports mode reproduces vivid mode effects. If you switch the picture mode to standard then it will decrease the contrast and brightness. According to a C-NET test, it has been found that the 42HP66 does not reproduce the same black level quality like some of the first-tier plasma televisions. Another drawback is the inconsistency in the color especially in light and dark scenes. There is also a considerable video noise in the picture.

The Toshiba 42HP66 has been enhanced with a colorimeter to ensure the delivery of best picture quality. It also has a Sencore High-Definition signal generator, as well as a specialized software suite that can calibrate the television to the Imaging Science Foundation (ISF) standard color temperature of D6500K. Overall, the 42HP66 ives quite a performance!
