The Sony KLV-27HR3 can be described in three words - stylish, slim, and lightweight. What more can you ask for from a 27 inch 16:9 LCD TV. The Sony KLV-27HR3 can be described in three words - stylish, slim, and lightweight. What more can you ask for from a 27 inch 16:9 LCD TV. The KLV-27HR3 belongs to a new breed of Sony LCD’s that is well priced, mid sized and looks attractive. The only difference is that the KLV-27HR3 doesn’t have the popular WEGA engine processing that has worked wonders for the Sony WEGA series. But does that really make the KLV-27HR3 inferior in any way? Not, not at all, in fact the KLV-27HR3 performs as well as you would expect from any Sony LCD television. You might not even realize that this doesn’t have the WEGA engine processing.

Sony always had a talent for designs and this can clearly be seen in the KLV-27HR3. The KLV-27HR3 has sensuous lines and curved edges and the models are available in both black and silver color. There is one major drawback that will draw your attention. This LCD lacks digital video input, which means that you will not get digital feeds from DVI or HDMI DVD players or from Sky HDTV broadcasts. The other shocking revelation is that it doesn’t have a component video, so you cannot view digital pictures on the television. This leaves the KLV-27HR3 with minimum features like RGB scart input for DVD pictures. Some of the other features enabled in the KLV-27HR3 include noise reduction for images, backlight brightness adjustment and RGB centering.

But in spite of the missing features, the Sony KLV-27HR3 copes well without the Wega Engine. It has a screen resolution of 1,280 X 720 and has an overall fine color performance. The color performance helps the KLV-27HR3 to provide a nicely textured and layered picture. The contrast is good and night scenes in movies can be enjoyed because of deep black levels. Although the blacks are deep, you may find an unnatural bluish glow and also the bright edges will shimmer a little. The sound is good although a little more treble and dynamism would have helped.
