Summary: Purchased 2 years ago. It took about 18 months of ownership before we started getting light-colored splotches on the screen. At first we ignored them, but they kept multiplying. Warranty ended at 1 year. We're stuck with an expensive tv. It doesn't seem like these splotches will stop multiplying.
Summary: Like many others, I researched TVs for months before buying my Sony KDL-50R550A. After I had to return the first one to the store immediately because it had a dead pixel in the middle of the screen, I should have known better than to think this was a "good" TV.
DON'T PURCHASE - LCD FAILS AFTER TWO YEARS UNDER MINIMAL USE
21 December 2015
Summary: I purchased this in 2013 from BestBuy, and it seems that it had a manufacturers defect with a faulty LCD panel. I called Sony support and they claimed to have no knowledge of any problem even though it is well documented on their own community site and on the Internet (see below).
Summary: We had a Christmas party at our house on Sunday. Someone's 3 year old child found the remote and whacked it multiple times on our TV screen. There were huge scratches and dings on the screen before someone got to the child. After everyone left my husband got a tissue and rubbed the scratches.
meaning the power supply or LCD panel was bad. Doing a search online

It wasn't quite 2 years old when I turned it on and got the 6 red flashing light error code, meaning the power supply or LCD panel...
Summary: This TV had VERY GOOD high def and was a wonderful TV but it only lasted 14 months with minimal use. I didn't buy a warranty because it was SONY and I thought it would hold up very well. This was my first experience with SONY but I had heard good things about them.
