Sony KDL-55EX723 review

Pocket Lint
29 November 2011
  • Excerpt: How does Sony do it? This flagship TV in the brand’s EX Series is one of the most impressive we’re ever seen. The way the 55EX723 upscales all sources to fit its massive 55-inch panel is clever stuff; it cleans and polishes all kinds of web-based video to remove noise, but somehow look cinematic, too – it’s a real treat.
  • Pros: Colour, detail, 2D Blu-ray, online services, Freeview EPG
  • Cons: Uncomfortable 3D, poor audio

TechRadar UK

  • Excerpt: The Sony KDL-55EX723 is an advanced attempt at a living room all-rounder, with a super-slim 41mm depth, online goodies galore and a 3D mode, though you will have to add the glasses yourself (Sony now sell them for as little as £60); think of it as a chance to upgrade to 3D in the future, and one reason why this is in Sony's 'Essential' Series of Bravia TVs.

What Hi-Fi?
30 October 2011
  • Excerpt: Sony has dropped 52in screens in favour of this bigger size. And unusally in a size sector that tends to favour plasmas, it's an LCD screen. It has an edge-LED backlight (which helps keep its depth down to 4cm), and a dynamic contrast setting that Sony says is ‘mega’. We probably wouldn’t go that far ourselves, but it is true that the EX723 produces deep blacks, and combines these with pure whites.
  • Pros: Big screen, cracking on-demand content, great Blu-ray motion, detailed HD, lovely colour
  • Cons: Crosstalk and double-images on 3D, weak sound
