The Z4500 adds even more features to the excellent W4500 that we tested very recently: MotionFlow is now at 200 Hz, a sub-woofer is included and the remote control has been improved. If it was easy to endorse Sony's earlier model as an excellent choice, it's even easier to welcome this one! Read more

    • Excellent image quality, Much improved sound, HD compatible tuner, Backlit remote control
    • Slightly narrow viewing angle for darker shades

If you are absolutely dead set on having a 40in LCD TV, then the Sony will serve you reasonably well, but anyone with less specific requirements might be better advised to seek satisfaction elsewhere. Read more

    • Nicely naturalistic pictures, Solid all-round performance
    • Slightly high price, Mildly unadventurous execution

Although the 200Hz does not entirely convince, the KDL-40Z4500 is actually an excellent LCD TV in all areas. Are only concern is the relatively high price. Read more

The new technologies seem to be flying thick and fast in the TV space lately. First 100Hz and 24p, followed by LED backlights, and now Sony has brought to market the first unit with a 200Hz mode — the Z4500. It features all the bells and whistles you’d expect from a high-end panel, and it satisfied in almost every image quality test, meaning it is yet another appealing high-def TV. Read more

    • Great 200Hz motion mode, excellent contrast and blacks, DLNA certified, good SD performance for a 1080p screen
    • Some annoying judder when not running Motion Flow, default Cinema setting may be too soft for some

In Sony’s efforts to expand their LCD TV empire by catering to buyers with different requirements and budgets, they have come up with more range and models of Bravia LCD televisions than you can shake a stick at. We have tested the latest W4500 series, and are waiting for the imminent X4500 series to hit the stores, but where does the Z4500 series – unveiled at IFA 2008 as the world’s first 200Hz LCD HDTV – fit into the picture (no pun intended)? A great performing TV if you are lucky enough not to need to claim on the warranty. However, if anything goes wrong do not expect Sony to do anything else but walk away. Read more

    • The sound is better than any other flat screen TV I have heard and the picture is definitely worthy of the high test ratings it receives.
    • Sony’s product quality should be taken into account before purchasing. I am on my third TV the previous two a W and Z series having failed. My current Z series is now ...

Never been terribly impressed by this television unless you are using blueray disks when it is stunning. However at 24months age I have complete panel failure and a £[] repair. Read more
