Samsung D5520 (UE40D5520)

3 October 2011
  • Summary: With superb Internet features, punchy pictures and a gorgeous design, the 40-inch Samsung UE40D5520 is a corking LED TV. At around £550, it's also a real bargain.
  • Cons: Audio could be better; slight backlight inconsistencies.

  • Summary: Pretty-boy looks, excellent picture quality, and a strong feature set all for under £530? Surely Samsung's UE40D5520 must have a catch somewhere...
  • Pros: Phenomenally cheap, Good all-round picture quality, Very easy on the eye
  • Cons: Audio struggles when pushed hard, No Skype or web browser, Very slight (but containable) backlight clouding

Samsung UE40D5520

What Hi-Fi?
2 October 2011
  • Excerpt: If there’s one area of TV manufacture where Samsung has established itself as a front runner, it’s perceived value. Take this UE40D5520. It’s a touch more expensive than its Sony and LG rivals, but it looks svelte and modern where the Sony KDL-40CX523 looks dated, and it’s bang on the money, spec-wise. The lack of 3D support might drive some into the arms of LG’s 42PW450 , but in every other respect the Samsung is the most accomplished sub-£1000 screen we've tested.
  • Pros: Skinny chassis, extensive spec, tremendous picture-making ability
  • Cons: Not brilliant off-axis
