Samsung D6900 ( PS51D6900)
12 October 2011
Summary: Samsung's 51-inch PS51D6900 is currently one of the best-value 3D TVs on the market, but this plasma telly also offers great 2D performance and an excellent line-up of Internet and media-streaming features.
Pros: Excellent 3D pictures; crisp and detailed 2D images; strong, vivid colours; deep black levels and good contrast performance; great Internet features.
Cons: Not as free from ghosting as Panasonic's GT30 plasma TVs; black levels aren't as deep as those of the very best plasma sets.
Excerpt: Samsung doesn’t seem to like plasma very much. Every year, the brand’s marketing focuses almost exclusively on its latest LED TVs, while its plasma models sneak into stores with little or no fanfare. But the appeal of Samsung’s plasmas has grown with the advent of 3D, where they’ve provided three-dimensional pictures far less troubled by crosstalk than any of its LCD displays. All these qualities and more are present and correct in the good value PS51D6900.
Excerpt: We’ve seen several Samsung TVs this year, but they’ve all used LCD panels. We’ve got nothing against LCD technology, but when it comes to image quality it’s difficult to beat a plasma set, especially in films. As Samsung’s current mid-range plasma TV, the PS51D6900 is a reasonably priced way to improve the picture quality of your home cinema setup, as well as add new features such as 3D support and SMART TV content.
