Samsung PN51D550 Review
11 August 2011
Conclusion: We’ve seen the Samsung PN51D550 for under $900 on legitimate online sites (not counting shipping), which is really a great deal. If you can live without Internet apps (you can always buy the Samsung 3D BD player with an optional $79 Wi-Fi dongle) this is an excellent choice.
Pros: Most affordable active-shutter 51-inch 3D HDTV available (as of publishing), Comes with two pair of active-shutter glasses, Still can’t beat plasma blacks, contrast, color accuracy and smooth motion
Cons: No Web apps (Netflix, etc.), Remote not backlit, Plasma still has reflectivity issues
Conclusion: If you want a big screen that can display 3D, but don't want to spend a lot of money, the 51-inch Samsung PN51D550C1F plasma HDTV is a solid choice, as long as you can live without integrated Web apps.
Pros: Inexpensive. Effective power-saving Standard mode that halves energy consumption.
Cons: No Web apps. Shadow details aren't the best for a plasma display. 3D shows some crosstalk.
