Media player works terrible, bad costumer service

Eugene T., Newegg
24 December 2012
  • Summary: Problems with playing media files from a USB stick and via wireless. Sound often lags, when re-starting a movie previously paused and switched off, fast forward does not work at all with all video files I tried. Samsung costumer service couldn't care less.
  • Pros: Good picture quality, good sound, good design.
  • Cons: Horrible media player, rudimentary Youtube, no multilanguage support in Youtube.

Great HDTV at a great price

Eric P., Newegg
31 December 2010
  • Summary: I bought this TV on a Black Friday deal from another site where my Prime membership got me free shipping. I needed only 8 bills to pay for it. Measuring power consumption with a Kill-A-Watt I got the following: Standard: Avg = 175 W (150-220 W range observed) Movie: Avg = 240 W (190 - 300 W range...
  • Pros: The picture on this TV really is exceptional. Blacks are amazing, everything is very smooth. I hadn't noticed any hum/buzz or excessive heat. While writing this up I went to check if it did actually buzz, and was able to hear it when less than 1 ft away from the screen, but hadn't noticed it in a...
  • Cons: There are a couple cons, but mostly trivial stuff. -The remote feels pretty cheap and is a little difficult to use by touch. -Consumes more energy than my old 32" LCD (surprise, surprise...) -Speakers are nothing to write home about, but they get the job done for my wife's reality TV shows. Use a...

Stunning, with some minor annoyances

Anonymous, Newegg
12 November 2010
  • Summary: Excellent TV for the money. The picture is indeed stunning and for $998 to the door, I am very pleased.
  • Pros: Stunning image quality and nice array of inputs. Build quality is superb.
  • Cons: Remote is substandard. Game Mode toggle is burried in odd place in the menus, making it difficult to switch back and forth between movie and game mode. Also the primary nav button array has no bumps on it so you can't tell what you're pressing without looking at the remote. Screen saver functions...

Great value.

Kou X., Newegg
29 October 2010
  • Summary: I recommend getting a TV stand made specifically for a 50" TV, looks better that way.
  • Pros: 1. I got it for $900 shipped, it varies between retail price and sale price here on Newegg so wait around til it's on sale. 2. Look around, this one is the best value if you're looking for a 50" HDTV.
  • Cons: None that I know of.

Great Deal

Richard H., Newegg
7 October 2010
  • Summary: I'm still happy with the purchase.
  • Pros: Overall the TV is a great, picture is good color and black levels are superb, runs cool no buzzing noise like some others and it sips energy compared to my last plasma.
  • Cons: 1. Image retention is a big problem. I can't watch a half hour show without some channel's logo burning into the screen but it goes away totally after about 5mins when the channel has been changed to something else. I'm not use to this, my old panasonic th-50pz850u which died on me 2 weeks ago ne...

Great TV

Anonymous, Newegg
27 July 2010
  • Summary: The amount of TV you can get in a modern plasma for the $ is shocking compared to LCD or LED. I have been shopping around for some time now and decided to go with plasma. I watch lots of sports and Blu-Ray's so the 600Hz refresh rate was a huge selling point for me.
  • Pros: USB, 4 HDMI, easy to use menus, pivoting base, web connectivity. Great size for the $. Low glare - even with two small windows directly in front of it. The picture is very nice for the size of display and it seems to handle blu-ray and sports very well. The internal media player has so far worked...
  • Cons: In a small room you will notice a buzz or hum coming from the screen. This buzz can be annoying when your movie goes quiet (or gets suspenseful!). This thing does put some heat off as well. The remote is kinda goofy; went and ordered a Universal (from NewEgg of course).

Sorry not satisfied

george c., Newegg
5 July 2010
  • Summary: Tested with TWC DVR HDMI output at 1080i.
  • Pros: Easy to setup. Well packed. Tech support was very very good. Price was very good. Sound system is good.
  • Cons: Sorry, I am very Disappointed with this purchase. The picture quality was much lower than I am accustomed to enjoying. I thought I was upgrading from a non-Samsung 42 inch Plasma to this Samsung PN50C550 and am in much shock..need to put back the old Plasma..

Simply Stunning!

Julie K., Newegg
13 May 2010
  • Summary: My current setup is simple, so I can not speak to how this TV would integrate into a complete HT system. I don't even have cable (and never will again, SUCK IT COMCAST!). I use an OTA DTV signal, 720 DVD, and vids via USB. Soon I will be streaming video from an external USB hard drive.
  • Pros: *Just an incredibly beautiful picture: color, resolution, blacks. *Lots of options to control/fine tune colors -- search AV or A'zon forums for excellent picture configurations. *Supports ethernet wired & wireless connections -- allows streaming of video/music/image content from networked PC. *2 ...
  • Cons: remote is not as great as it could/SHOULD be... would be nice if it could control even the most basic functions of a dvd player (play, pause, >>, <<, stop etc). The buttons to do so are there but they are for the built-in media player and/or SAMSUNG devices with Anynet+ functionality. Some niggli...

Good Picture, Excellent Price; Happy with the TV

Sean L., Newegg
28 April 2010
  • Summary: I'm pleased with the TV. The picture is excellent, the sound is better than I thought it would be, the hum is minor, and the inputs are sufficient, Further notes on Image Retention (IR): No abusive (SNES at 4:3, etc.) video games have been tested.
  • Pros: The picture is well balanced by default (not going by any instruments here, just looking with my eyes), however if you wish to fine tune the picture controls and tools are extensive. I'm coming from a Toshiba CRT low end television, from which I most appreciated the contrast. When there's a blind...
  • Cons: Buzzing - This TV does make some noise, and in a lower frequency than my previous CRT. However it doesn't make MORE noise than the CRT. Listening at "someone asleep in the next room" volumes, the hum can be observed, but normal listening volumes drown out the hum completely, even in quiet scenes....
