Summary: I bought it at a large nationwide store that is headquartered in Chicago for 2 Andrew Jacksons less than newegg. With tax it was still less. Whoohoo!
Pros: Excellent blacks. No soap opera effect watching Battlestar Galactica unlike my friend's Samsung LN46C650. Colors pop off the screen. No buzzing issues. SImply put, the picture through both HDMI from my PC and HDMI from my PS3 looks sharp, and certainly more "natural" than I have seen on any LCDs ...
Cons: It's not a PN43D450. It required a bit of calibration to get the picture where I wanted. The screws were a pain to get into the base. Samsung needs to redesign the base. I expect more from them.
Summary: VERY happy with this TV but it was not a "plug and play" experience like my last hdtv (Akai 36" HDTV). The box was wicked BIG and heavy! Poor delivery guy almost had a coronary lugging it up my steps. Looked like there was a 70 inch TV inside.
Summary: The Samsung 42" PN42C450 plasma HDTV is a real find, especially for people who want a fantastic picture at a pedestrian price. After quibbling over numerous sets I finally settled on this one, because hands down, this TV has the best picture out there of any type of set priced at $1000.00 and under.
Summary: As long as a blu-ray is playing, the resolution displayed is 1920x1080@60Hz and this is when the Info button on the TV's own remote is pressed.
Pros: An unexpected surprise. Connected the TV to a blu-ray player from the same MFG, the 5500, and this is what happened. When the player was turned on, the TV displayed 720x480@60Hz. When a blu-ray disc started loading, the screen displayed 1920x1080@60Hz. And has great detail.
Summary: Garbage in garbage out. If the TV get a crumby signal, you get a crumby picture. But on the other hand, if you send it a great signal, WOW it's awesome! I calibrated my screen so, some of you may want to try these settings: Mode=Movie, Contrast=96, Brightness=57, Color=56, Tint=G46/R54, Black...
Pros: The color... it's beautiful. The onboard sound is actually pretty good for a TV. It's a plasma and I assembled it myself (ie. it's not heavy). Great size for most rooms. Plenty of adjustments to tweak. Looks great. They raised the controls on the TV's side/frame so that you can feel them.
Cons: The plasma screen isn't exactly black... and this is before turning it on. However, when watching a program that fills the screen and has contrast too, it looks fine.
Summary: We recently found ourselves in a spot where we needed to find a replacement for a bedroom television. So the hunt was on for a TV to replace a 32" 'old style' direct-view unit that would see about 8-10 hours of use per week.
