Conclusion: The 64 inch PN64F5500 is the largest mid level plasma TV in Smasung's 2013/2014 lineup. The F5500 has a number of features found on the F8500, but most of them are missing. What you get is active 3D functionality and the new and improved Smart Hub. The quad core processor is missing, but the dual core processor in its place will be fine for light use. The built-in camera is missing as well. Picture performance is strong for 3D and 2D content alike.
Pros: Deep black levels, Color accuracy on Samsung plasmas is preferred over Panasonic's, Side angle viewing is perfect as expected, Thin depth of 2.2 inches is attractive and helpful for wall mounting, Active 3D performance with comfortable and affordable 3D glasses, This TV offers a perfect balance of price, quality, and value (especially at the size), Smart Touch remote helps with Smart TV navigation and web browsing
Cons: Not the best bright room performance (typical of plasma TVs), Reliability for the long term is questionable, The TV gives off an audible buzz that can be heard from close to the screen, is still plagued by above average input lag
Excerpt: This is a product that seems to be way different than other plasma alternatives. Usually, plasma TVs are thought to be light and suitable to be carried around. However, the PN64F5500 weighs 45 lbs along with the stand. The weight is equally complimented by the 2.2 inch depth and you certainly require some help moving it around. All that been said, the overall aesthetics of the TV looks good to the eye.
Conclusion: Those looking for top-notch picture quality in a 50-inch TV under $1000 will be hard pressed to do better than Samsung’s PN51F5500. And for that matter, the larger sizes offer excellent value as well. We were treated to a beautiful overall picture, with stellar color and contrast, impressive black levels, respectable shadow detail and silky smooth motion.
Pros: Brilliant color contrast, Deep black levels, Good shadow detail, Intuitive and feature packed interface, Affordable
Cons: Not stellar in bright rooms, Some noticeable lag in gaming
