  1. Samsung PN50A550 Plasma TV

At the top of this review, I called the PN50A550 the flat-panel equivalent of a Honda Accord. Can you buy a better-performing vehicle? Of course, but you'd best be prepared to spend a whole lot more if you insist on owning the flat-panel equivalent of a BMW. Something like the $6000 Pioneer Elite PRO-110FD would qualify. The Samsung PN50A550 is excellent all-around performer with no serious flaws. It's a good deal at it's list price of $2700, but you won't have to pay... Read more

It's easy to be impressed with Samsung's new line of plasma sets, including the new 50-inch PN50A550, a full HD 1080p model, which includes support for the latest HDMI 1.3 x.v.Color technology. While x.v.Color isn't widely integrated on new sets and is still more hype than reality, it's a welcome addition to any mid-range-priced set such as this one. Read more

Samsung's PN50A550 offers much of the performance and many of the features you'll find in a higher-end 1080p display at a more reasonable price.  It's a very good all-around performer. Read more

  4. Samsung PN50A550 Plasma HDTV

Video experts and video reviewers can be a cantankerous bunch. We’re always engaged in a tug of war with manufacturers about what we’d like to see in new HDTVs. We aren’t often successful, not necessarily because the manufacturers are stubborn (OK, sometimes they are), but because they’re more concerned than we are about the realities of the wider marketplace. We couldn’t care less about floodlight-worthy light output, a remote that will also start your car, or... Read more

In a darker room, watching this TV is like watching real-life. When I watch my old LCD, my mind knows I am watching TV; but when I watch this TV, my mind is tricked into thinking I am there. So, yes-it looks stylish, has the features you need, etc. but that is not what distinguishes this TV--its the lifelike picture quality. Read more
