This was a pretty good television, but in less than 2 years the main board died, and the cost to fix was $514!! Upon searching the Web, I found that this was a common problem that Samsung did not address, I will certainly not be buying a Samsung again (fortunately I kept my 32" JVC which is going great after 20 years...). Very disappointing. Read more
I don't use the built in speakers so can't comment on sound quality. Picture is what I expected, with almost too many options to make adjustments. Read more
We have this TV in our bedroom, connected to cable and a blu-ray DVD player. I had my eye on this set-up for quite some time, since seeing it (Samsung 40" LCD 630, Samsung blu-ray DVD) in a dept. store. Great, clear, crisp picture, audio much better than I expected. World series looked great. I can't find anything to criticize. I don't usually watch much TV, but I will now. Read more
I really like this TV. It looks really big in my room and it looks so much bigger than my 32" Im using as my computer monitor. The picture is really sharp and the internal speakers are the best I have heard on any flat panel TV in years. I do think it is a bit heavy which is why I am a bit apprehensive about mounting it to our cheap walls. Read more
I don't care for the red plastic and bulging shape of the bottom; just personal taste. Assembly requires screwing together two parts of the base, inserting the screen, then placing four more screws (two in blind holes). This wasn't a major ordeal, but it could be made simpler and more reliable with better design. Given the factors described above, I may swap this unit for the comparable Sony model, at an extra cost of $25. Read more

I am researching a 40" LCD HDTV for a Christmas purchase. I like the picture quality and specs of the Samsung LN40B630, but am a little leary after reading of the power on / capacitor problems experienced with other Samsung TVs. Does anyone know if this problem is showing up on the LN40B630, or has Samsung finally upgraded to better capacitors? I'd rather go with one of the other brands, if this issue has not been resolved.

I am currently debating between the Samsung LN40B630 and the Samsung LN40B550, the 550 model runs at 60hz, vs the 120hz of the 630, I'm wondering how much of a difference this will actually make? After doing a bit of research I learned that the real factor in a clearer picture is not always the refresh rate, but rather the Anti-Jutter effect, I believe Samsung refers to this as AMP (auto motion plus) Does the 630 come with AMP? Is there a feature to turn AMP on / off? and is it possible to run the unit at 60hz and 120hz, or does it only run at 120? Thanks in advance...
