Summary: I looked at Sony , Sharp and Samsung. Decided on the LN-S4695D for all the features and the swivel base. But if I had the chance to do it all over again, I would not buy the Samsung. Expertise: Engineer. Problems Encountered: The LCD screen became suddenly dark after 5 month. On another occasion the LCD turned itself off with no reason. The first time I contacted Samsung, I was told it would be 1 business days to get a technician out to look at it.
Summary: Wonderful picture, but menu limitations mess up the use of programmed macros on universal remotes. The dynamic menu selections screw things up, and the Samsung designers must think one should use a half dozen remote controls for his home theater system, and not use a single remote control with programmed macros. Example: Selections on the input menu are dynamic and change depending on what inputs are active at the time.
Summary: I looked at this and the Sony 1080p models. This thing is fantastic, and less expensive than the Sonys. Great contrast. Super colors. Standard TV looks fine. DVD looks very very good. HD signals are out of this world. It has a nice mode to dim it easily via a remote button. Handy if watching at night and don't need the full brightness set for daytime viewing.Just sit back and enjoy this set, and the saving over the Sony line.
