The Samsung HL-S5687W provides the clearest, sharpest images as compared to any other HD or standard TV. This 50-inch television features a full progressive HD 1920 x 1080-pixel resolution in a digital format converter, which can be used for all inputs. Its high contrast ratio of almost 10000: 1 gives you whiter whites, blacker blacks and crisp colorful images. Razor sharp pictures are achieved through the high-speed DLP chip, which has huge amounts of tiny mirrors that can switch off and on at speeds that are higher than 15,000 times per second. The Samsung HL-S5687W comes with an in-built NTSC/ATSC (analog/digital) tuner and it offers HDMI as well as component video connections. Another interesting feature of this TV is its rather small footpring as compared to other TVs that are high-definition. Digital Light Processing (DLP) utilizes an optical semiconductor in order to recreate source material that cannot match a fidelity analog system. Digital Light Processing brings an optimum amount of light to the screen from the lamp, with the help of microscopic mirrors present in its projection system. This is a vast improvement over other technologies, which tend to lose amounts of light in transit. The color uniformity is also improved over a period of time. There is no possibility of color shifting; screen aging or burn-in. DLP is a leading display technology used in products such as professional venue entertainment systems and small portable conference room projectors.

The Air Bearing technology incorporated in the Samsung HL-S5687W makes this television as silent as a whisper. It features a 2.6inch color wheel that spins at a high speed of 14,400 rpm, thus providing film –like transitions without the pixel break-up found in relatively slower moving color wheel designs. Samsung and Microsoft worked in tandem to create a special Game Mode that enhances video game play. Just a single touch of a button improves response time, sound and image quality, resulting in a more realistic game play. The Game Mode enhances all aspects of your games, giving you optimum gaming pleasure.

  1. Samsung HL-S5687W 56” DLP RPTV

For the most part, the HL-S5687W is a worthy successor to the previous generations that were so highly regarded. Color, grayscale, detail, subjective black level, and shadow detail were all excellent. The primary drawbacks were the effective lack of a 1:1 mode and some serious hot-spotting. Other than that, this is a fine 1080p RPTV well worth consideration. TPV Read more

  3. Samsung HL-S5687W 56” 1080p DLP HDTV

I’m very pleased with the solid performance of the 5678W display.  I vote it the best value for the money.  Its picture knocks the socks off similar displays of even a year or two ago, it seems to have  no serious “cons” against it, and due to both the recent price reductions of all large video displays, as well as the savings seen in this particular model - which dispenses with a few bells and whistles such as PIP and CableCard - purchase of the Samsung won’t... We purchased the Samsung DLP TV about 9 months back. The TV failed in first week of Feb 2008. Samsung "certified" field service technician worked on the TV for 6 weeks, bringing 1 part every week to change & test. He had no idea what was wrong. Then he said the TV had to be replaced since it was under warranty. Then Samsung didn't approve a TV replacement for many days after this. Once they finally approved the replacement, they did not commit to delivering the... Read more

If you compare all the ratings in the top 25, most of the HDTVs have 4 stars or above. I think the jump from SDTV to HDTV is so impressive that people are satisfied with their purchase. I've seen alot of TVs in the stores and I think most of the sets look great too. So knowing that many of the TVs already look good, I weighed other factors and prioritized them: 1. Price - Stay under $2000. 2. Screen size - At least 40". 3. Burn-in - I know the new TVs have protection to... Read more
