Summary: Purchased my Samsung HL-S5087W 50" DLP HDTV in Dec 2006 from Amazon.com with a 4 year extended warranty. Took the free shipping offer that was available at the time. The TV was delivered in about 10 days in good condition and the delivery men opened the box and allowed me to inspect the TV (especially the screen) for any external damage. Later that evening, my husband and son were able to the setup the TV without any problems. TV picture is beautiful, TV worked fine.
Summary: Overall I'm quite happy with the purchase of this TV and would recommend it. Just a few notes of things I didn't think about enough.. the viewing angle is very sensitive, so if your entertainment center is too high or too low compared to your viewing position you'll want to either change the tv location or come up with a way to tilt the tv slightly (I'm using 2 DVD cases at the moment).
Summary: Overall I aagree with the comments on picture quality and overall satisfaction with the unit. One area of annoyance is the constant background noise created from the fan. I have my unit in a large wood open cabinet so the fan noise is a little louder than normal. The other item is the wide difference in picture quality between various materials, such as off-air HDTV, DirectTV (no HDTV) and my DVD player.
Samsung HL-S5087W 50" 1080p DLP HDTV vs sony bravia
Science Guy, Amazon
8 September 2006
Summary: Was all set to buy sony bravia 40" lcd at CC, but the new samsung 50" 1080p was right next to it. The picture was AMAZING. Color was sharp, I was able to see a great picture from most angles and the color was fantastic. Plus even up close you do not see the pixels as you would see in a plasma to lcd. The sales person was right when she said, if I am not looking to hang it than for the same money you should go wtih Samsung new generation of dlp.
