Summary: We paid $500 for this TV a year and a half ago, and it's going strong. Good value, great picture, remote works great. It's perfect, except for one thing: the volume. We have lived in three homes since we bought it (attempting to account for acoustics or distance from the TV to the couch here), and there is a problem with 13/14 volume. On 13, you can barely hear the volume, and on 14, it's screaming at you.
Summary: I am writing this review after keeping the crap TV for 1 year and then finally decided to sell it in craigslist. TV started showing picture problems right after 3 months into purchase. Was very annoyed but RCA did send someone to fix it being in 1 year warranty period. The fixing guys came and declared within no time that it is PCB problem. They ordered it from SEARS and went back. Meanwhile I discovered when I tap very hard on back of TV, colors became OK.
If your RCA 42LA45RQ goes dark and only flashes once at startup...

Summary: This TV, while having a very nice display and overall good functionality, is known to have a few glitches that only develop over time. In all fairness this is also true for most other products on the market. The 42LA45RQ is known to develop a problem where the screen would remain dark even though the TV comes and works fine meaning it is actually able to opearte and it outputs sound (if switched to appropriate input/channel), but of course you can't see anything since...
Summary: This TV was pretty good for awhile. Then the main board went - a couple of days after the wararanty period. Was told they have been having a problem with this particular TV and was told to call customer service. They basically said - sorry! We can send a service man for a price of $100 plus an additional $200 plus for parts - even tho they knew this TV was defective!!! I will never buy another RCA product!!
Summary: Bought this for $499.99 from BestBuy. About 80 days after I bought there was bar/vertical stripe on the left side . Video wasn't that great to start out with. Unfortunally I didnt purchase the geek squad warrenty with bestbuy (dumb me) and thank goodness it had a 1 year manufracturer warrenty. But its ridiculous to deal with the manufacturer.
Summary: Seriously, how does a company stay in business when its products cannot hold out for six months? I bought this unit on sale despite the large number of reviews mentioning defects. Should have heeded the warnings. Less than six months later, I am trying to schedule a service call. Naturally, service is only available a couple of weekdays out of the week, and no drop-off is available.
