2 years and 4 months later

Victor L., Newegg
2 August 2011
  • Summary: For some reason this big TV is very distracting to my 9 month old daughter.
  • Pros: After almost 2 and a half years I still love this TV. Friends and family that come over to the house are still impressed.
  • Cons: Pioneer stopped making TV's!!!! I want this one to go in the bedroom, and get a 60" Kuro Elite. Oh well.

Great TV

Pandasaurus L., Newegg
2 April 2009
  • Summary: There are some people posting in here that have no idea what they are talking about. You should stay away from most of the picture modes on this TV. Movie mode is the most accurate color out of the box and should be used whenever possible. Also, avoid "smooth" cinema mode.
  • Pros: Great TV, contrast ratio is through the roof, grayscale is very accurate, black level are (of course) amazing. Color saturation is unmatched. This is the best picture I have ever seen. Once properly calibrated this thing really is great. Speaker is removable. Great if you use a dedicated home the...
  • Cons: Color temperature is slightly off out of the box and there are no settings in the user menu that will allow you to adjust these. You have to purchase ControlCal and hook your TV up to a PC to adjust color. the good news is you can get it very accurate it's just going to cost you 60 dollars for th...

Great TV

Chris M., Newegg
20 March 2009
  • Summary: Make sure you check your shipment. First one I had delivered had a huge crack on the front. Of course New Eggs customer service was on top of it.
  • Pros: Awesome picture, enough options to satisfy the average tech head. Compliments a blu ray player very nicely.
  • Cons: Pioneer is going out of the plasma business. This is probably the last year you will see the Kuro. Unless Panasonic decides to continue it since they have bought it out. Just google it.

The best and worth it

Anonymous, Newegg
16 March 2009
  • Summary: All of my external sources, both HDMI and component, had the same reference black point so calibrating the levels in Movie Mode for one of them suited them all. This is a good thing since Movie Mode is the only picture mode where the Kuro actually produces a good picture.
  • Pros: "No pro calibration needed" accurate picture when set to Movie Mode: 6,400K average greyscale +/- 100K from 10-90IRE, 2.27 average Gamma. Natural looking color despite having a larger gamut than the REC 709 standard. Natural sharpness with no edge enhancement. Awesome motion detail. No image rete...
  • Cons: Larger color gamut is hard coded and cannot be adjusted to match REC 709 for those who are insistent upon having accurate color primaries (this didn't bother me personally, I think the expanded gamut looks great). Dithering visible at close distances in solid colors (though I only ever see it on ...

  • Summary: Shipping was great. Delivered 1 day early, with no problems. Driver helped me take it out of the box and helped carry it in the door. Don't hesitate, just buy it.
  • Pros: Great price. Awesome picture. I bought this TV based on reviews, and I'm very pleased.
  • Cons: none

The best TV I've ever owned!

Peter L., Newegg
9 March 2009
  • Summary: I ordered this late on Monday, order was processed Tuesday, scheduled delivery was the following Tuesday. However, I got it on Friday, only 4 days after ordering! The shipper was very professional, AIT or something. I'm so glad it wasn't Fedex or United "Pulverizing" Service.
  • Pros: Replaced a 32" Samsung LCD, which cost almost the same 3-4 years earlier. I had thought the LCD TV picture was ok, but after comparing side by side, the "blacks" on the LCD are more like dark blue, whereas the Pioneer's are about as black as, well, black, and the picture, especially on hi-def sou...
  • Cons: The buzz people have complained about is there, but only if I get within 1 foot of the rear of the TV, and is inaudible from the front. Since I am practically at sea-level, this probably helps a lot. It gets quite warm, and my electric bill will be probably a lot higher next month.

Great Plasma, Sweet Price!!!!!!

Victor L., Newegg
8 March 2009
  • Summary: Performing brakin-in as recommended by guys on AVS forum. I got the extended warranty. I am looking forward to many many years of enjoying this beauty. When this set was newly intoduced at $4,000.00 it was just a distant dream. No it is mine.
  • Pros: First this thing is HUGE!! Picture looks realistic and the detail is astounding. Blu-ray and, Local high def look great. PS3 and XBOX 360 look great (I now have to sit back or I get dizzy). Newegg and AIT both exceeded my expectations. Ordered TV on Tue 3/3. Was Scheduled to be delivered Tue 3./1...
  • Cons: Would not recognize my flashdrive to perform firmware upgrade (Pioneer tech support is sending me a free compatible flahdrive with frimware installed). Now I have to buy a stand that will look as good as this TV.

  • Summary: If the Elite series is too much scratch pick one of these up ASAP before they run out, you will not be sorry! I missed the promo with the 51FD for the lower price, otherwise I would have bought from the Egg.
  • Pros: Outstanding display, really black blacks! My viewing area is mostly dark, but it is also really good in daylight also, reflections aren't bad at all. I also have the Pioneer BDP-51FD Blu-Ray player, and BR looks awesome! Glad I waited for the price drop. No buzzing or dead pixels on my display.
  • Cons: None, other than Pioneer is getting out of the display market, there won't be a 10G Pioneer. Maybe some of the tech will end up in Panasonic displays soon.

Last chance for perfection?

Jerold C., Newegg
1 March 2009
  • Summary: Currently the Top of the "$4000 or less" Catagory. Very few televisions around can compare with the picture quality this set is capable of prodiucing. The combination of deep, deep blacks and crisp vibrant colors, all in the highest resolution, produces an almost awe-inspiring effect.
  • Pros: High Color and Black Contrast levels. Able to view undistorted from almost any angle. High quality construction and Apperance. Lots of hookups, including 1 S-video, 1 Component, 2 Composite, 5 HDMI and 1 PC DVI, along with a USB port. Audio has RCA/analog, Coaxial, and Optical Digital Out (in add...
  • Cons: Not cheap. Need a good BluRay and/or HD Cable/satellite service to FULLY appreciate just how good this television is. (though even regular TV is fantastic on it :) )

Best plasma ever...

Dale S., Newegg
25 February 2009
  • Pros: This is by far the best plasma television on the market. It truly is a shame that Pioneer is leaving the plasma business. Grab this while you can.
  • Cons: The manufacturer's warranty may not be valid.
