The first thing you will notice about the Philips 26PF9946 is its elegance. The glossy white and grey finish renders it with a touch of classiness that can not only be seen but felt as well. The 26PF9946 has a touch of style that gives it a royal air. But it seems that although it has scored high with the physical appearance, it lacks some of the more essential features. The 26PF9946 does not have progressive scan nor does it have some of the high definition inputs like HDMI, DVI or component video. This will probably make you ask, is beauty really skin deep?

So where does the difference really lie? The difference lies in the fact that this beauty comes with an FM radio tuner. If you are bored of visual entertainment, you can always surf through some of the radio stations and work while you listen. The 26PF9946 has a small 1,280 x 768 screen and the Philips’ Active Control System. This particular feature helps in optimizing pictures using continual adjustments. The television has really passed the color test with A+ and can bring out minute details with ease. As far as the black level response is concerned, you may find a shade of grey just like the ones you see on low contrast screens. What it has missed out on inputs, the 26PF9946 has covered up in detailing and you will notice even the tiniest texture of wood or grains in an image. That is the display quality for a price that is quite down to earth.

One of the major issues the Philips Televisions have faced in the recent past is that of dot crawl, but in 26PF9946, this problem has been taken care of. Some of the other features of the Philips 26PF9946 include auto-tuning, auto volume leveler, Smart sound and picture options, multiple aspect ratios, Dolby Virtual & Nicam, contrast booster etc. At its current price, this TV is a steal!
