The Philips 26PF5520D is pretty to look at, but it does not always back up those looks with the beef that consumers are looking for in a flat screen TV. The Philips 26PF5520D is pretty to look at, but it does not always back up those looks with the beef that consumers are looking for in a flat screen TV. While the unit has safe-guarded itself against extinction with the ability to receive both analogue and digital video formats, it can be difficult to utilize some of the connections and requires some finagling to hook up.

The rectangular unit is very pretty to look at, with an striking black body, set off by sleek sliver speakers. This pretty face dulls when the user tries to utilize the video input ports, of which there are none. A tangle of wires and VGA cables and the use of the DVI jack will rectify the situation, however the input source located on the back of the set makes this a daunting prospect. To further the agony, the unit is not equipped with a PC input, thus requiring this type of technology to be hooked to the DVI jack.

However, the Philips unit has a long list of features which more than make up for the connectivity nightmare. Included in this bundle is a handy light adjustment, which allows the set to alter itself based on the light levels in the room. The screen boasts and exceptional vividness and clarity, allowing the viewer to enjoy a full spectrum of color intensity. Furthermore, it shows striking detail in all signal types.

The unit does, however, have a great deal of trouble showing detail in dark scenes giving a vague flatness to images. In addition, it does not handle fast action that well, tending to smudge the scene. While the Philips is nice to look at, it is not at the top of its game when it comes to usability.
