Excerpt: I've had this TV in my living room for about 5 years and have never had a problem with it. The picture is decent and the sound quality is very good considering it isn't surround sound. The only real complaint is it makes a clicking noise when it's on and sometimes when it's off. It's always done this but nothing has gone wrong in 5 years.
Summary: I purchased the Panasonic TC-P42ST30 back in July when Amazon.com had a killer deal (bought the TV and got 2 pairs of 3D glasses/Avatar on blu-ray for a little under $730). The first one I got would not turn on (DOA), but Amazon was really good about replacing it and had another at my house in a few weeks (they were out of stock at the time). My overall impressions with the TV are really good. The picture quality is pretty good given I only have standard cable.
Summary: It is a very good panel with excellent color and tone rendition. Its weak link is sound; a very tinny sound with exacerbated sibilants; tone bass/treble control do not help much. An external sound source, such as Panasonic's sound bar, is a must.
Summary: I had some problems with the first tc-p42st30 i recieved from amazon. Namely uniformity issues, a dead pixel, and an off center picture. The second one isnt perfect, but I find it within acceptable parameters, and I am pickier than average about these things. There are mild uniformity issues in the form of some light verticle banding. This is only noticable on the solid color break-in slides im running and not noticable in normal viewing content.
