We had high expectations to PX80 here at Flatpanels. Other reviewers are excited and I can understand why. PX80 didn’t let us down. It’s very likely the best TV in the mid-end segment and in my opinion it’s even better than some much more expensive TVs. The colour reproduction is nice and the out-of-box colours are some of the best I’ve seen. I miss the RGB (red, green, blue) controls but because of the good out-of-box result it’s not critical. Barely escaping a lower grade, this plasma combines a number of noticeable defects; definition is a bit limited, there is no HD digital tuner, and the panel isn't dark enough in well lit rooms. Either way, it's still a good TV. Read more
Red tones can occasionally look a bit orange, HD pictures could look cleaner still were the TV full HD, and as we said, colours can look more vibrant on LCD technology. But the positives far outweigh the negatives. Read more
The 42PX80's sound isn't as impressive as its pictures - but it's certainly good enough. Which leads us to the conclusion that the 42PX80 has an almost absurd amount to offer for a 42in TV costing just £900. Read more
This isn't the most stylish TV and it isn't crammed with state-of-the-art features, but it is a solid, high-quality plasma TV that we wouldn't hesitate to spend our own money on Read more
With some additional features, the TH42PX80 still represents an excellent value plasma package. Full HD models from Panasonic with the latest image processing technology are more accomplished, but the price to performance equation in this case is hard to beat. Read more

I have had this tv for close to a year now. I purchased it with amazon's white glove delivery included. The delivery company called to schedule a time, and they actually came out on a Sunday to accommodate my work schedule. The tv is beautiful and has great resolution. The customer service is outstanding. I was a bit challenged hooking up older models of DVD player and VCR and the customer service guy patiently talked me through the connection. Read more
Based on customer and various web site reviews and being on a budget bought this HDTV about 2 mos ago. Great picture and sound, great value. It does have limitations. Closed captions work only from the FIOS box, the TV's clsd caps don't work. SAP, doesn't seem to work with the FIOS either. Called Panasonic, was told that's how it's going to be. Also, no ethernet connection but hey, at this price something has to give. Read more

Do not let the resolution and/or price of this set blind you. Its images are just awesome. And this is what really counts. This is truly a ' Pioneer for the layman'. It actually took me some time to get to that conclusion. As anybody else, I was convinced resolution was paramount. Read more
first plasma television bought as I was under the impression that plasma is best for movement not true as when I watch my football the lines on the pitch continually STROBE, unless it is in high definition of which I see very little. The digital tuner is very good for everything else though. my next television will be an l.c.d. The up scaling on the D.V.D. is amazing and is almost as good as high definition. Read more
Very bright beautiful picture. I read the last review on overstock but still bought it. You aren't supposed to get 'right-up-to' any large screen TV. You will see some pixels if you do. The 1080 would help...but why spend the extra money? The 720p looks the same as the 1080p from 6 feet away (I tried them out in a local store charging retail). LCDs are getting almost as good at Plasmas as far as producing 'real' black colors. Read more
Panasonic Viera TH-42PX80U 42-Inch 720p Plasma HDTV 3 This is the 4th Panasonic HDTV that I've purchased in the past 2 years. Always had good luck with them until now. This set worked for about 30 minutes and then the picture and sound were gone. Called Panasonic and waited on hold for over 35 minutes, was put through to the wrong dept. twice (another 15 minutes) and then the person that finally set up an appt. for a repair person to come out was RUDE. I live in LA and was wondering if I could tune in OTA HD channels. Is this difficult to do? Do I need to purchase other accessories?
Answered by kbrozio 2009-01-03:
It says it features a digital tuner so it should work just fine for receiving OTA
Answered by kbrozio 2009-01-01:
if they both have an S-Video connection then you should have no problem, you'll have to change the laptop output to S-video to be able to see it though and change the resolutions to make sure it's clearly
Answered by MrsRosie 2009-08-08:
If your laptop has S-Video input, you can hook it up but if it doesn’t you can’t hook it up. Refer to the manual to get more
