Excerpt: The TC-P50GT50 (MSRP $1,799) is a high-end plasma from Panasonic. The 2012 GT50 series is just one step-down from Panasonic's flagship VT50 series, and comes with a similar array of bells and whistles: Active Shutter 3D tech, 2D-to-3D conversion, Panasonic's Viera Connect smart platform, DLNA-enabled content sharing, and many more market-friendly terms that don't really have anything to do with whether the TV is good or not.
Conclusion: At around $1620 for a near top end 50” TV with Panasonic's best panel (sans the Ultra filter) and one of the best picture qualities we will see all year, this TCP50GT50 positions itself extremely well in the HDTV market. Competition is mostly from other Plasma TVs as LED TVs are not produced in the popular 50” size. Samsung's second tier PN51E7000 and LG's 50PM6700 are two good competitors.
