Summary: I bought this TV after reading great reviews. I have had the TV for over 6 months now to assure appropriate time and familiarity with the settings to see if I could get it right before writing a review. The TV is just OK. I was between the LG and the similar Samsung. I should have bought the Samsung. The 120hz refresh rate is nowhere near fast enough. Sporting events or anything in motion is blurry. The picture is not that clear even in HD.
Summary: I was (at first) very happy when I purchased my new LG 55 inch HDTV. That lasted about a month. That was when I found out that there was sound distortion in the speakers when I put the sound up past '9' or '10'. I put up with it for a few months, then decided I would put in a repair request before my 1 year warranty expired. The repair request process went smoothly ... then when the repair team showed up they informed me that the speaker quality 'was normal'.
Summary: not only is the sound level very low. in less than 3 months time the right speaker blew out. for a tv that cost this much money you would think that you would get some sort of sound quality that matches the amazing picture.
This is a 60hz LCD confirmed by LG and black levels not the best
25 January 2013
Summary: Just got this TV on a deal that made it about 1/2 of MSRP and for that price I will keep it. The set is really a 60hz panel that flashes LEDs for a truemotion effect, one that has been debunked as delivering the real effect of 120hz. Blacks are not very deep and it suffers from a lot of edge light. The color is really great, The glare is not too bad on the shiny screen, 3D is a cool novelty, gaming seems OK. The fit and finish are very nice and it looks real good.
Summary: LG LCD tend to be over bright backlighting so make sure you get it calibrated. You can start with backlight at 30, Contrast at 90, brightness at 70. I still think the glare off the screen is annoying.
Summary: great picture easy to set up, looks great on the wall. Two weeks after I bought it the speakers started to vibrate. I changed bass setting to 30 and turned clear voice on to 3, so far no vibration.
Fantastic television, Amazon and their shipper were a disappointment

Summary: The television is stunning. Amazing image, small bezel, low power consumption, just a bit thicker than an inch, and doesn't have all of the frills modern sets like to push at people. Until "3D" becomes something more than a simple manipulation of the eyes through some silly glasses with a limited amount of quality material to view, I have no interest in paying for it.
