It doesn't deliver the darkest black levels or the best contrast I've ever seen on an HDTV, but when properly configured, the LG 50PY3D plasma TV provides a pleasing viewing experience with standard- and high-definition video sources. Read more

    • Excellent standard-definition video processing. Good selection of 1080p-compatible video ports. Swiveling table stand.
    • Some picture settings sacrifice standard-definition video detail. Overscan is a problem with standard-definition video. Jagged-edge artifacts seen in some HD video sou...

LG's 50PY3D offers generally good performance and a nice collection of 1080p-capable inputs. It's not as fully featured or high-performing as the best plasmas on the market; however, since it is now an archived product, you can find it at a reasonable price. Read more

With its 50-inch 50PY3D, LG Electronics shows that a high-quality 1,080p plasma HDTV can also be affordable (relatively speaking, of course). Focus groups showed LG that consumers prefer the picture quality of plasma over LCD, but the ultimate 1,080p resolution has heretofore been available only in LCD sets or very expensive plasma models. The 50PY3D changes this dynamic. Read more

The Basics: LG offers both plasma and LCD HDTVs, and the 50PY3D was LG’s first 50-inch 1080p plasma. As such, it is priced somewhat higher than several of the company’s 720p 50-inch models. The 50PY3D has a healthy connection panel that includes three HDMI inputs and two component video inputs, all of which accept 1080p/60 and 1080p/24. RS-232 and IR ports allow for integration into a more advanced control system, and there’s a USB port for MP3/JPEG playback. Read more

This TV has an amazing picture from every source that I have hooked up to it (Comcast HD, XBox 360, PS3 & Blu Ray). That's the end of the good news. The customer service folks from LG are not all that helpful and you'll get transfered a few times before getting to the TV Warrany people. Read more

We have this TV mounted on the wall in a pretty bright living room. When there is a lot light, you can sometimes see reflections in the glass. However, in low to moderate light, the TV looks great. I used three HDMI cables (cable box, Roku and DVD), which I just plugged in and it worked instantly, making the setup very easy. Read more
