The LG 42LB1DR is one of the few televisions that combine DVR with HDTV. According to C-NET this is what makes the 42LB1DR unique. With the DVR attached, it will save you extra money, which you would have invested in an external box or on a cable service provider. The 42LB1DR is no ordinary HDTV and its features talk louder than words. There are a good number of video inputs including two HDMI inputs, one RGB, two component inputs, two RF and two composite video inputs.

The LG 42LB1DR has an ergonomic feature, which is probably not there on any other TV tuner. This LG TV tuner responds intuitively when you start entering a channel using the remote’s number grid. For example, if you press 2 then the TV will pull up a list of channel 2 in the system. The list will comprise of analog, digital or cable. It will list the HDTV channels first by default and this makes it easier to jump to the required channel. The 42LB1DR also has automatic aspect-ratio detection that will correctly size 4:3 and 16:9 content.

The audio in 42LB1DR has six sound modes: Normal, News, Music, Stadium, Theater and a user mode, which will let you change the treble and bass and also turn on the SRS TruSurround XT or 3D EchoSound pseudo-surround modes. There are two front speakers attached on the sides of the TV screen and two additional speakers on the back panel to produce a simulated surround sound effect.

One of the greatest drawbacks of the 42LB1DR is the lack of uniformity across the screen. You will clearly see lighter spots in darker areas. It doesn’t have a wide angle viewing feature hence it is advised to view only from the front.
