  • Excerpt: The VMC110L is a small 110mm maksutov made by Vixen. Vixen has put together a great combination of features all in a compact telescope that can be taken as carry-on. They have replaced the traditional large corrector plate of the mak with a lens in front of the secondary. This has the effect of making the telescope quite light for a mak and it eliminates the dew issues.
  • Pros: Compact, Quality Lenses, Strong Construction

Great grab and go!!!

JoeyC, Orion Telescopes & Binoculars

  • Excerpt: I was looking for a grab and go scope that gave great clear views and I found it in the VMC110L. The scope came well collimated giving very nice views. Stars are pin points that show natural color. The flip mirror was a nice touch, I like that I can have both an illuminated recticle e.p and a longer focal length e.p in the scope at the same time for my goto alignment of my mount. It's a very light and compact scope which is a plus for travel.
  • Pros: Accurate, Compact, Quality Lenses

User Review

Orion Telescopes & Binoculars
11 November 2009
  • Summary: Negatives first: I didn't like the plastic cap as it doesn't fit properly and can be hard to put on. It took a couple of minutes to put it back on after viewing. I'm going to have to take a Dremel tool and a grinding wheel to the cap to try remove some of the plastic to enlarge the cap enough to fit snugly but still be easy to take off and out back on. It really is a poorly made item. The other big annoyance is with the slow motion control cables.

So so scope for the money

THE Dink, Orion Telescopes & Binoculars
23 May 2009
  • Excerpt: I bought this as a grab and go scope about 2 years ago mainly because of the price and the fact that it is probably the largest ap, higher focal length scope you can find that is still less than 5lbs. The main problem I have with this scope is that on bright targets, I get this sort of hazy, grainy glow around them when I start to bump the power up past 100x. The best I can do to describe the effect is to say that it resembles having the scope heavily dewed up.
  • Pros: Compact
  • Cons: Difficult To Focus
