Very nice, reasonably-priced telescope

  • Excerpt: This is just the telescope I was looking for to take on vacation to dark sky sites. At slightly over 5 inches of aperture it provides more than enough light grasp to bring in faint fuzzies and it's 650mm focal length makes it compact enough to carry on an airplane and hold it on my lap if necessary. The scope also gives very pleasing views of the Moon, Sun and planets. The two eyepieces (6mm & 20mm) included are pretty decent, especially the 20mm Plossl.
  • Pros: Compact, Easy to Use, Lightweight, Low cost, Strong Construction
  • Cons: Relatively long focuser

R130sf

  • Summary: R130sf The R130sf is a great little inexpensive newtonian. Its very portable and easy to use. One cool feature was the ability to shoot pictures through the telescope with just a T-ring for my camera. All other newtonians I have had won't come to focus, but on the R130, the focuser barrel unscrews in the middle, so you are able to get the camera closer and therefore focus. The images were crisp and bright through the scope and its very light.

  • Summary: recieved my order from orion on time and all was included. after alot of reading reviews and deciding , im very pleased with the purchase. I had a 4" reflector yrs ago and decided to get another before i get a big refractor. the vixen is really well made, it was easy to assemble, although the instructions are pretty useless. I more or less used the pictures to put it together, but it was easy and took less than 30 mins.

  • Summary: I've owned the Vixen R130Sf with the first Porta Mount now for about 2 years. It has been right from the start a good scope. I bought it in the Porta mount package. The initial images of the moon and Jupiter were eye watering and I especially liked the way the slow motion controls kept the object in sight without making it all jittery like my older (and cheaper) scope did. Last summer we had the chance to get out in the country and that's when the 5" mirror did its best.

Excellent scope

  • Excerpt: I just looked through the Vixen R130Sf and was amazed at the details on the moon and Jupiter. My dad then showed me the dumbell Nebula. Very cool!
