Summary: This is the best Christmas gift ever. Ease of assembly can't be stressed and took only 30 minutes. The views outstanding. I live in a very light polluted area and everywhere I pointed on my initial use I saw stars I never saw before. WOW. Compared to mt 4.5 was like living in a one room apartment and going to the penthouse. Minimal culmination was needed. Great buy for anyone and highly recommended.
Summary: The scope assembled pretty easily except for the Easy Finder II. After solving this problem, it was easy to align it on Jupiter. Jupiter shows very well with four of it's moons. The moon showed up very well during the eclipse tonight 12/20/2010. Craters of the moon showed up very well. It was impressive to others viewers. It is a little awkward to move. Wheels would help. Bad weather hindered a good work out.
Summary: After several months of research my first and only call went to Orion customer service. I called many times and talked with friendly knowledgable and very patient people. I am huge on proper customer service and they go above and beyond. Now that I found where I wanted to buy the big question was WHAT should I buy for my first telescope. I started with price first.
Summary: I researched my telescope buy for several months and finally decided on the XT8. It arrived this month and it is a great telescope for the price. Recommend the 9x50 right angle finder scope with the XT8. I have been enjoying spectacular views of the moon, Jupiter, and Saturn so far this month. Next viewing adventure will be the deep sky objects!
Summary: I am generally pleased with my most recent XT8 purchased (I now have two and keep the other at another viewing location). The only complaint I have with the most recent XT8 is the dove tail mount for the finder scope. The locking screw hole must be off center as it pushes the front end of the finder to the left as it is tightened. I am not able to move the finder adjustment far enough to the right to compensate for the error though it is relatively close.
Summary: My son attended a Science camp this summer and came home jazzed about astronomy. I asked the camp organizer for a recomemdation and he said he has recommended the 8" dobs many times. We took a chance and bought it. We LOVE it. We've gazed at several planets, Andromena (several times), the moon, the Orion nebula (wow), and lots of star clusters... It's very easy to use and not too heavy to take in and out. I highly recommend it for any newbie.
Summary: Putting my first Telescope, the SkyQuest XT8 Dob. together was a very easy thing to do. The first night I used it I saw the Harvest Moon, and what a thing of beauty it was. The next thing was to attach my old Logitech 3000 Pro and get some video of it. Not to bad if I say so myself. The next Month I saw Saturn. I set the alarm clock to wake up at 4:30AM to see it come up at 5AM, but I woke up at 3AM and could not go back to sleep.
Summary: I just bought this telescope about two months ago, and I love it. It's simple, and easy to use for a first telescope, and sophisticated and powerful enough for an experienced Astronomer. Even though there's a lot of light pollution here, it still works wonders. My only complaint would be that it's kind of awkward to pick up, but you get used to it. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone!
Summary: Just received my SkyQuest XT8 and am absolutely thrilled and pleased with it. I believe that it is a great product attainable for a great price. Jupiter clearly showed it's bands in amazing color. The Ring Nebula was easy to find and was spectacular. This scope is just the ticket for entry level intermediate and above users. Easy setup, quality parts and accessories and much of my observing so far has been done comfortably seated. You can't go wrong with this one.
