Summary: I bought this telescope for my son for Christmas. The optics are excellent. At 120x I saw a Jupiter shadow transit easily. Operation is easy. I find the mount to be perhaps a little too small. Putting a 10 pound weight on the base would seem a safe bet, but I've had no trouble with the telescope balance. I would replace the red dot finder scope. Any normal finder scope with cross hairs would be much better. I would give the telescope a very high rating other wise.
Summary: I picked up an XT6 for Christmas to replace my old Jason refractor telescope and what a difference it has made. The images are sharp and crisp and the dobsonian mount makes it very easy to aim and hold the scope on an object. Also the finder is amazing once you have it calibrated. Just line the red dot up with what you want to look at and it's there. It's a great scope and worth every penny.
Summary: I am a complete novice, but after researching scopes, and with the budget I had, the Xt6 was my choice. It was very well packaged, set up properly and after assembly all I had to do was wait for a clear night. The supplied 25 mm EP is very nice and the views were great. I feel like it was well worth the money. I did buy a separate Knight Owl Plossl 12.5mm EP, that I tried, but I could not see any real significant difference in magnification, am I missing something?
Summary: Great telescope I purchased this scope as a birthday gift for my daughter. she lives in an apartment so she needed something easy to use and store. We have used the scope 3 times so far and very pleased with optical quality, workmanship of tube assembly and the Go To operation. The scope was packaged very good for shipping and the assemble instructions are good. Good scope for taking to dark sky sites or setting up for a evening in your back yard.
Summary: I always wanted a telescope as a kid, so when my daughter started asking about stars and planets, I thought I'd buy one to let her see for herself. I wanted to get something that was powerful enough to not be a toy but not too big or complicated or expensive. This scope was a perfect choice. With it, you can get great views of planets and deep sky objects- even in the city. It is small enough that I can move it fully assembled.
Summary: I have owned my XT6i for just about a month now, and I am very happy with my choice. I did a lot of research before purchasing this telescope, and while many reviewers will say "aperture is everything," I am very glad I went with a slightly smaller scope that includes the object locator. The "push-to" navigation is very easy to use, and I have been able to find some really beautiful objects with the controller.
Summary: My wife and I purchased a scope from Costco and after our first look at Jupiter we decided to return it and get something better. Well I have to say I was disappointed when our view of Jupiter was no better even with the 10mm Siruis Plossl eyepiece. In fact this scope was much harder to position. At least the other one had the motors to position the scope. Should have kept the Meade.
Summary: For (the price) you cant go wrong with this telescope. The mount functions well, even better with a few modifications. The long focal length is great for the moon and planets. A quality eyepiece and good portability are big plusses. No problems....Good on ya, Orion! 5 stars.
Summary: I dont know what else to say that hasn't been said already in the other reviews, except stunning! I too like many others spent a lot of time reading reviews 6" or 8" this one or that one, then finally just took the plunge and bought the Orion XT6. This has to be dollar for dollar one of the best purchases I have made. Like the old saying goes "a picture is worth a thousand words" When I first pressed my eye to the eyepiece, I had one of those moments in life.
