Summary: My wife got me this telescope for my Christmas present. Needless to say, I am crazy about my telescope. Putting the telescope together took about 30 minutes. It took me a while to fully understand how to use the 25mm and 10mm lens. Now, both of us take turns looking at the Moon's surface and the planet Jupiter. I would recommend this telescope to anyone who is a beginner like me.
Summary: I've owned this scope for about a year or so now and just love it. Great optics and excellent overall quality. I use it mostly for the Moon and planets. Nice and sharp images. Even at 140X. I bought an Orion 2X shorty barlow with it also, which I would recommend. The red dot finder works well and is easy to adjust. I do wish they gave you the option of ordering this scope with an optical finder though.
Summary: This is one amazing telescope! I have had the Orion Observer for a little over a year now and I am always amazed at the quality that was put into this product. From the rock steady tripod to the optics and gearing for the pan and tilt this was one great birthday present. I have taken some stunning photos of the moon by just using a point and shoot digital camera and the 10 mm eye piece that is included.
Summary: I have owned this Telescope for about 6 months now and have used it both in warm and winter conditions. The Observer 70mm is both optically stable and able to see both the moon and close planets clearly. I was able to see Jupiter and IO with only a slight haze (it was a windy and cold night with some clouds). The storage tray is very handy and the controls are smooth and easy to adjust without having to leave looking through the eye piece.
Summary: This is my first telescope and I was excited to be able to recognize Jupiter and three moons without the help of the enclosed DVD. Who knows what I might find using a map. I don't know how to compare this scope to others but I am very satisfied with this one and recommend it to anyone. You should add a moon filter and carry bag to your order.
Summary: Bought this scope for an experiment.Orion is modest in telling you what this scope can see. We looked at many star clusters and pushed it slightly past the 140x magnification maximum advertised on a good night and still got very sharp images. I intend to use this scope to do the entire double star program from the Astronomical League.
Summary: I had gotten this product and it is amazing. The finderscope is easy to use. And when you foucus it on an object it gives beautiful crystall clear images. A must have for the beginner astronmer. The only down side is that the assembly is a little confusing but once you see how everything goes together it's a snap. I love it and anyone who wants a good telescope should get this.
