Great Portable Scope for Little $$!

philipjadler, B&H Photo
11 May 2014
  • Excerpt: I have a Meade 8" LX10 SCT that has a super wedge and field tripod, but it weighs close to 60 lbs. I wanted something small and lightweight to take on a trip to Maine, and the fact that it has Go-To was a plus. A great scope for the $!

Returned for Credit

Mike W., B&H Photo
29 October 2013
  • Excerpt: The unit I received had a defective gear knob so it would not slew or stay in position. Also, the threaded parts like dew sheild and camera t-adapter were almost impossible to attach due to poor quality threading. The backpack quality is just okay.
  • Pros: Compact
  • Cons: Cheap Plastic Materials, Poor Quality, Unstable

  • Excerpt: Excellent bang for the buck. I've had an ETX-70 for 10+ years. I bought this ETX-80 for my Dad knowing how much I like mine. I'm happy that Meade is still putting out quality stuff. This thing is built quite well and has a couple of features my old one didn't have.

Great Telescope for Price and Experience Level

jlds2009, Ebay
3 September 2011
  • Summary: Great telescope for a beginner like me. I use it with my son and we both love looking at the stars, specially the moon. If you live in the city like me it will be hard to see certain objects, but works perfect in clear and dark skies!

  • Excerpt: This product is highly rated from numerous websites. The bottom line is people love this telescope. I owned this telescope and loved it. I felt that only the tripod felt cheap and weak. However after frequent use the telescope itself basically fell apart.
  • Pros: Accurate, Compact, Quality Lenses
  • Cons: Unstable
