Excerpt: I will be contacting Meade.
-The Altitude adjustment is lacking a screw type or any form of positive stop. Adjusting it, is by hand with only a side locking screw to stop it and hold it in place.
-This is very difficult with the amount of counter weight pulling it down, it drifts while tightening.
-The frame is also poorly designed, it is impossible to get down to the horizon.
Cons: Equatorial Mount Issues, Red Dot Sight S Not Good, Unstable
Excerpt: Fairly easy to assemble though the instructions could have been better. The 25 mm eyepiece works well when looking at the moon. Lousy weather plus cloud cover has prevented me from seeing a lot, but I expect it will work well. I also bought a 102 mm Meade refractor for my son, but I haven't compared them yet. Excellent value for the price.
Excerpt: Haven't used a telescope that was younger then myself (48) Over all very happy. Price, shipping and product all good. only complaint is the veiw finder. Not worth even putting on. Other website for same model wanted $45 for shipping above cost. Got this with free shipping fast and it was free shipping..
Pros: Easy to Use, Great Starter scope, Quality Lenses
Excerpt: We got the telescope, and put it together in a few short minutes. We went outside, and tried to find the moon, but we literally could see nothing. Yes, we took the lens cap off, but still, nothing. We were very discouraged. Then we looked at the picture on the box...And realized we were looking at the ground, not the sky! LOL! Once we aimed the thing to the heavens, we were very pleased! We plan to really get a lot of use once the weather warms up.
Pros: Accurate, Compact, Easy to Use, Lightweight, Quality Lenses, Strong Construction
Rhianna the star gazer, Orion Telescopes & Binoculars
28 January 2011
Excerpt: This telescope is great for gazing at the stars, moon, and other plants. A great tool for teaching our grandkids about our universe. The only small thing that I have noticed is the stand is a little unstable. But we are so very pleased with it's performance and quality.
Summary: Was easy to set up, a total novice will be able to set up and start using in 30 minutes. This is astronomical scope (reverses and inverts image which is fine for astronomical use) not for use with terrestrial viewing. First night was able to see Jupiter and 4 of its moons. Mount is a little shaky but stabilizes quickly. Has rekindled my love of astronomy. I got this scope when it was about 109 + shipping but still worth it at 179.
Summary: This is a pretty decent beginner telescope. You can see the moon very well with it, can barely make out the rings on Saturn, and can see the little specks that are Jupiter's moons. I also looked at the white smudge that is Andromeda Galaxy. It is very easy to set up and adjust. I have only one complaint, and that is the red dot viewfinder. It worked perfectly for a couple of months, but now seems to need realignment very frequently, even if I don't touch it.
Summary: The scope gives a great view of the Moon, My main problem is with the mount. It will not tighten down, so the scope turns freely. Bottom line, you pay $109, you get a $109 view. Spend a little more..........
