Good optics, unstable mounting

  • Excerpt: This small 70mm refractor is great for what you pay for it. The included 45 degree diagonal and eyepieces are acceptable for terrestrial viewing. The finder scope is not easy to see through at night. The included carrying bag is nifty, but the tripod is cheap and unstable. Trying to center anything in the eyepiece is next to impossible if you're looking for objects in the night sky. Speaking of, don't expect impressive views of anything except for the moon.
  • Pros: Compact, Lightweight
  • Cons: Difficult To Focus, Difficult to Use, Unstable

Great starter telescope

  • Excerpt: I bought this as a gift for my husband. It has been great. We live in the city so it's perfect size for our apartment. It gives amazing views of the moon. If you're looking for a starter scope like us, this is perfect for the price. On a side note BH packaging and shipping couldn't be better! Shipping was fast and free of charge!

Nice starter scope

  • Excerpt: I bought this as a starter scope to view the moon and planets. As for planets, it is better than binoculars but not a lot of detail is visible. It is very good for viewing the moon as the details really pop on a clear night. The scope is light and reasonably priced. Now for the downsides. The fit of the diagonal into the scope is very sloppy. The locking screws do hold it tight but I wonder if the alignment of the optics is affected by it not being perfectly centered.
  • Pros: Compact, Lightweight
  • Cons: Flimsy tripod, Sloppy Diagonal Fit

  • Excerpt: It's a solid scope. The stand is a little wobbly but for the price it is a very good deal! Great for birdwatching to viewing the moon. I bought this because it could be.expanded on. I intend on getting the 2x lens to go with it.

  • Summary: I was pleasantly surprised with the telescope! It's a little complicated for my son to operate by himself, but while we are using it he says he feels like real scientific. Great purchase for the novice star gazer.

Great telescope but lame tripod.

  • Excerpt: I bought this telescope as a gift for my 10 year old nephew and he seems very happy with it. I setup everything, the telescope itself feels very solid, with good optics, but the tripod that came with it is extremely flimsy and unstable. My copy had a faulty erect image diagonal but I contacted Celestron costumer support and the shipped me a new one right away. Excellent company. Highly recommended product.
  • Pros: Compact, Easy to Use, Lightweight, Quality Lenses

nifty little scope

  • Excerpt: The temptation for this review is to give the product less than 5 stars but I am resisting that temptation. The reason is that the cost is so small that you have to concede that you got more than what you paid for. I set the scope up for my 5 year old niece at her height and put the full moon in the 20mm eyepiece and she was thrilled. There you have it, it was worth every penny.
