Excerpt: For the price it is much better than a junk department store refractor. Uses real glass for optics and not plastic. As for the first review that states could not focus the telescope was probably out of collimation and mirrors were not aligned properly. I have been in the hobby for a while and have had several telescopes. It provides beautiful crisp view of the planets and a wow for the moon. The Ring Nebula and Bode's galaxies are within reach of this scope as well.
Excerpt: I have owned this telelscope for 7 years. Although we don't have much time to use it, I got it out last night and we were looking directly at the moon in minutes. It is sharp and bright at the moon's distance, but I haven't spent the time to locate much else. Anyone expecting to open the box and start getting Hubble images are just naive. Anything further than the moon is going to take work to locate and focus on. Buying this telescope will not make you an astronomer.
Pros: Easy to Use, Lightweight, Optical Quality, Price, Quality Lenses
Summary: I bought this for my girl friend for Christmas. So far, because it's been cold out, I've only used it once, just to look at the moon (in the daytime no less). Seems like a pretty good telescope, except for one thing...the long rods that move the telescope gradually left to right and up/down could not be of poorer quality. They are cheap plastic and somewhat fragile. However, the rest of the telescope seems to be of pretty decent quality, and very affordable.
Summary: This thing is amazing, really a good product. Brings the moon and stars right up to your doorstep. I am really surprize on how clear eveything is. This is one powerful telescope for the size it is. My kids and friends love it also.....
Excerpt: I did a lot of research before buying this scope and finally decided on this one because it seemed like a good beginner scope and had overall good specs. Assembling the telescope was just fine. It took about 30 minutes and was pretty easy. But, when we brought the telescope out on our deck for viewing, we just didn't see much at all. We started with the most obvious, the moon. We were able to get it into view, but the focus was just horrible.
Cons: Bulky, Difficult To Focus, Difficult to Use, Hard to use, Poor Lens Quality, Unstable
Summary: This is my first telescope. After reading other reviews I expected to buy new eyepieces but was still disappointed with the 4mm one Celestron included. It is practically useless. I have had fun with it and am learning every time I take it out. The RA and Dec adjustment cables both broke within a week and rather than mess with Celestron I repaird them myself. Overall, the scope is good, but Celestron cut corners on the small things which is irritating.
Pros: Bright clear views, easy to polar align, good price
Summary: Bought a second for a gift... Declination worm gear on mount was stripped out and plastic clamps on tripod legs were all cracked (should be made of metal!!!!). Instead of returning and not having a gift ready I decided to give my telescope and deal with Celestron's warranty/support department. BAD IDEAL! You think calling a telescope dealer's Tech/Warranty department they would have a clue about basic telescope mount parts...not!
