Summary: After having tested the Celestron Omni XLT 120 on the Moon, several galaxies, the Orion Nebula, several open clusters, and the Globular cluster M-13 I am very satisfied with the optics. The images are sharp - even at a magnification of 110x on the moon. Certainly the optical value is very high for the cost of this scope and I give the optics 5 stars. If you are a fan of equatorial mounts (which I am not), then the mount is a decent mount.
Excerpt: Well, first off the actual telescope itself is very nice. You can see quite clearly with it. It is very cold where I am located right now so I have only used it twice, and you can see TONS litterally TONS of crater on the moon. I also took a look at Venus, which really isn't that special because our atmosphere interferes with its atmosphere with heat vapors so you can't see too much detail, but still very bright and amazing.
Summary: Here's the scoop. I'm a newbie to astronomy so my review probably won't have much weight. I was given a Celestron C4 as a introductory primer to astronomy. The scope's lens coatings had begun to deteriorate from dew exposure neglect. Even though it still gave outstanding sharp images and contrast, I wanted a perfect scope with no impediments. I Purchased the Omni XLT 120 after selling the C4. The C4 has a long history of quality and outstanding optics.
Excerpt: I received my new Omni XLT 120 refractor about 3: 00 pm Friday, July 20th. I set it up to get familiar with this scopes features. [...] First was the size, wow this is a large scope. The tripod and the mount especially the mount are quite heavy. This makes for a really stable platform. Considering the weight once fully assembled, slewing the scope was effortless. Just balance the scope as described in the manual.
Summary: I bought a Celestron Omnxi XLT 120 Refrator from Amazon as a birthday gift for myself. I recieved one on 27th January, however, it is a wrong item! (Omni XLT 150 Reflector) So I requested a replacement and recieved another one on 28th Janury. Unfortunately, the replacment is still a wrong item (still 150 Reflector)! I have no choice but to return both and ask for refund. Really disappointed at amazon's logistics and handling!
Summary: This telescope is packaged by Celestron into two boxes, one for the tube and one for the tripod and mount. Amazon appears to not understand that one item is packaged in two boxes. They sent me only the box containing the tube, without tripod and mount. Then they could not send the missing box, and made a replacement order. The replacement order arrived exactly as the first one, missing tripod and mount.
Summary: Want to give this a 4.5 out of 5! First of all I would like to mention the price. For a 120mm refractor telescope this is a very good price. This price point did however lower my expectations for the product. I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived in 3 well treated and well padded boxes. The quality of the engineering seems very good to me. I have as of yet only viewed Saturn and have been able to pick out the rings easily.
