For the price, weight, and seeing ability, you can"t beat it.

  • Summary: The Celestron NexStar 5SE is maybe the best all arouund telescope in the SE line up. It has plenty of light grabbing ability, light weight enought to travel with and is very easy to use. My friends love it. I love it! My 8 SE is left in the corner a hold lot more now.

Compact and Easy

Adam, Orion Telescopes & Binoculars
8 March 2014
  • Excerpt: Received this today (5 days ahead of the date promised during checkout). Like a kid at Christmas I immediately opened it and set it up in my living room. 1st time took 10 minutes. It functions as advertised with the power-supply I also bought from this site. Simple to assemble, easy to figure out the hand control, adequate instruction manual (answered my questions -- I don't read directions until stumped), and smother motor operations.
  • Pros: Compact, Easy to Use, Strong Construction

Wonderful!!!!!!!

Michael, Orion Telescopes & Binoculars
24 December 2013
  • Excerpt: I ordered this after a purchase made for another telescope (from the manufacturer's website) wouldn't ship for 5 to 8 weeks. I then ordered the Nexstar 5SE and a Power Tank. The telescope arrived in 2 days and the Power Tank 4 (due to FedEx error). The website is well designed and very informative. Shipping was fast and cheap. Hayneedle/Telescopes really seems interested in making their customers happy.
  • Pros: Durable, Easy To Set Up, Easy to Use, Good Design

Nexstar 5se

markbowles, opticsplanet.com
8 August 2013
  • Summary: I have yet to try out my 5se as I have had a few problems with it. Powertank really needed as batteries only last around 10 minutes. Just make sure you have a fully charged powertank or AC adaptor. Optics seem very good, tripod very stable and well made, drive motors could be better. Have not yet tried sky align but looks easy enough when you set up the finderscope for the first time.
  • Pros: Well built, great optics, easy to assemble
  • Cons: Poor manual, needs external power, expensive

Great Telescope!

Joe Johnson, Orion Telescopes & Binoculars
25 January 2013
  • Excerpt: I just purchased this telescope over the SLT 130 since the Nexstar SE series won telescope of the year. It came two days after placing the order, talk about fast shipping! It took about half an hour to setup which isn't that bad. Leightweight nothing too heavy to carry. Haven't been able to use it since the clouds are blocking my view to the heavens. In addition to it being cold out, I hear it doesn't work well with cold.
