Excerpt: I am new to astronomy but have some knowledge of optics through photographic interests. I set this scope up in my back yard -- there was some wood smoke and light pollution. I had a difficult time using the finder and did not manage to align the scope using the 3 bright object automatic feature. However, I downloaded an iPad app with a star chart and managed to find jupiter and align the telescope using the solar system alignment option. Once aligned it worked great.
Pros: Accurate, Compact, Easy to Use, Lightweight, Strong Construction
Excerpt: I live in a 2nd floor condo in the middle of Washington DC and was looking for a grab and go scope for camping trips, for use in the back yard or anytime I didn't want to lug out the 8" dob that I also own. I choose the 4SE based on its weight, portability, excellent reviews and GOTO capability. <br /><br />Most of my observing is done from my VERY light polluted backyard smack in the middle of Washington DC.
Pros: Accurate, Compact, Easy to Use, Lightweight, Quality Lenses, Strong Construction
Excerpt: This was purchased as a gift for the holidays. Had a few hiccups on the way (first telescope I ordered was not in stock but all was well in the end). <br />This telescope is realtively easy to use if you follow the directions carefully. It does take some setup initially, and if you're lucky enough to have a clear night the views are AMAZING! We've seen the Moon up close and personal, and Jupiter is absolutely stunning! Be warned!
Excerpt: I had a bad experience with another website and was in a panic to get a telescope to my grandsons by Christmas. Hayneedle not only got it there 3 days before Christmas, they awarded me with a few extra perks I did not request. The salesman recommended I consider the Celestron NexStar 4 SE Telescope because I could get more for my money and it was a better product. He said Hayneedle had both telescopes in stock.
Excerpt: Had a few chances to use this scope so far and I like it. You will most likely need more eye pieces as this unit only comes with the one. Mixed results with the go to function, but I have been having troubles with cloudy skies so I have not had the time to level and other setup things while I rush through the setup procedure. I have been able to find planets without the goto function. Waiting for the night with no clouds and little moon light to give it the full workout.
