Solid and easy to use

Macro and astro, B&H Photo
7 October 2010
  • Excerpt: This telescope is very easy to mount and operate. Instructions are 95% corresponding to what you have to do. A couple of comments : mount the finderscope : you will have to remove the 2 screws.. Do not try to find open screw holes. On the alignment part, it is pretty accurate if you take care to really point the 3 bright stars you intend to align on.
  • Pros: Accurate, Quality Lenses, Strong Construction
  • Cons: Heavy

Everything BUT USB

Bill, B&H Photo
1 July 2010
  • Excerpt: This is a superior product that will give many years of pleasure viewing the "Outer Limits" of our solar system. The ONLY thing I couldn't believe was that an RS-232 serial connector was included to hook up to my laptop. USB has been in use for OVER 10 years universally. I had to buy an adapter to turn the serial port connector into a USB conector. This is not awe-inspiring. Otherwise, this is the perfect product.
  • Pros: Accurate, Quality Lenses, Strong Construction
  • Cons: Heavy, Not as portable as I want

CPC800 is A-1!

NCMountains, Adorama
25 June 2009
  • Excerpt: This is definitely a professional grade scope that offers even the beginner a world of features that does not overwhlem you. Easy to use and pretty much self-explanatory. This scope does it all for the hobby astronomist. The goto feature is dead on and the data base so expansive that you can literally stay busy for months! The quality of build of Celestron scopes are second to none. This scope line is built like a battleship. The XLT optic coatings are wonderful.
  • Pros: Accurate, Strong Construction

CPC 800 XLT an excellent Scope!

Happy Customer, Adorama
28 January 2008
  • Excerpt: An excellent scope for the money. GOTO works perfectly and tracks objects flawlessly. Do yourself a favor and get a 24mm Televue panoptic eyepiece and you will feel like you are swimming in the Orion Nebula. The tripod is extremely stable which is important when viewing Deep Space Objects. Planetary viewing is a joy. The only regret is I didn't purchase this a year ago.Celestron has really hit a home run with this scope![...] Great scope!

An excellent telescope

Mr. Philip J. Wathen "Philip Wathen", Amazon
9 October 2014
  • Summary: This is an incredibly well-made device. Anyone who has ever used a simple telescope will be familiar with the two greatest problems: a tripod that vibrates and using two knobs on stalks to keep the object in the centre of the eyepiece. The tripod used with this telescope is heavy and rigid, 14.5kg of die-cast aluminium with stainless steel tubes; I have not noticed any vibration. The telescope is motorised and keeps the object centralised.

An excellent telescope

neilb, Amazon
21 June 2013
  • Summary: I decided to upgrade from a Skywatcher 130 (a good beginners scope) and have found it well worthwhile. It arrived very quickly and well packed from Green Witch. The supplier has helped me with a small problem I thought I had (that turned out to be a misunderstanding on my part) and I am grateful for their excellent service.

Big, capable scope

K. Mitchell "International playboy-in-training", Amazon
10 September 2007
  • Summary: Sold my 4" Meade ETX for one of these as I wanted something hefty that would be able to handle some imaging equipment and would have relatively accurate tracking. Hefty is what I got. I ordered the 8" because I have to move the scope to a dark site by car, but when it first arrived it seemed enormous! Still, with the built-in handles it is ok over short distances and you'll be glad of the weight when you get it set up.
