Great Starter Scope

Kathie, Orion Telescopes & Binoculars

 • Excerpt: Purchased to use with middle grades science classes. It works well and allows me to provide beginers with instruction on tracking objects using the EQ mount. I am also using in combination with a solar filter for daytime viewing.

Wonderful Telescope

 • Summary: This is our first telescope and for the price we were very impressed with the quality and overall feel. It seems much sturdier and well built than I expected.

Beginners Only

StarGazerDad, opticsplanet.com
20 January 2013
 • Summary: Selected 70EQ for tween boys based on it being a refractor scope (good for newbies), available reviews and perceived comparative value. Total setup time about 60 mins, but was not difficult. Tripod is not solid, though vibrations dampen fairly quickly. 70EQ comes w/10mm & 20mm eyepieces. This would have been my "total package" if it had included a quality, shorter (focal length) eyepiece.
 • Pros: Setup, weight, size, ease of use (after a little practice)
 • Cons: No short eyepiece, sky map excludes planets

Celestron AstroMaster 70EQ Telescope

 • Summary: Is a great purchase, but I need a stronger lense to see the moon better! It is a bit akward in size to move around easily; to obtain the best viewing of birds in flight!.

Great EQ Refractor

Cole, Orion Telescopes & Binoculars
2 September 2011
 • Excerpt: This is a great refractor for the price. I bought it because it was equatorial mounted. Once you are align with Polaris, viewing is a breeze. Manually tracking objects with this EQ mount is much easier than doing so with an alt-az mounted scope. I am also very surprised about the quality of the eyepieces. Much better than I expected them to be. I've been using this refractor for checking out Jupiter. The views are crisp, and detail is easily seen.
 • Pros: Accurate, Easy to Use, Lightweight, Quality Lenses, Strong Construction
 • Cons: Difficult To Focus

Must buy for begginers

M76, Orion Telescopes & Binoculars
22 July 2011
 • Excerpt: My aunt bought me this telescope a few months ago. This is my first telescope and I have been stargazing often with this awesome artifact. It's very good for begginers and it's easy to assemble. Good lens and construction material in general.
The only con is that it's is not very stable (when you use the tripod, of course).
But good telescope anyway.
 • Pros: Easy to Use, Quality Lenses
 • Cons: Unstable

Good beginner telescope

kevlowe, opticsplanet.com
16 January 2010
 • Summary: I purchased this telescope for my 7 year old daughter for Christmas. I had a similar telescope as a kid when I was her age and experienced years of joy with it and wanted to share those with her. The optics provide a reasonable view of easy to find objects. The only two drawbacks are that the red dot spotter scope can be difficult to use to sight in your target.
 • Pros: Easy to use
 • Cons: Mount is a little shaky
