Excerpt: I am an amateur astronomer by hobby. This is the third telescope that I have owned, the first Newtonian. It has been an absolute joy to have on a clear night. The aperture is great, sturdy tripod, as well as the easy set up.
Summary: My wife bought this for me for Father's Day. For the money, I think the telescope is really great. The large aperature really captures light. Aligning and using an equatorial mount is hard. There are good youtube videos that really help you with alignment and use.
Pros: great aperture and light-gathering for the price easy enough set up
Cons: non-functioning equatorial mount poor instructions -- youtube will save you here. poor finderscope
Excerpt: I bought this telescope for the family. It was easy to assemble but temporarily lost one of parts for the counter-weight. Everything went smoothly and the directions were easy to follow. Orienting the Star Finder was the hardest part.
Pros: Accurate, Easy to Use, Quality Lenses, Strong Construction
Excerpt: The Scope gives me excellent light capture and giving a very nice view of planets and dim stars surrounding the objective that 114 EQ does not do as well. Some have said its too heavy but I can carry it around (a little muscle, yes) by removing the counterweights first.
